Job Description
The Medical Assistant is responsible for providing nursing care to patients under the direction of a physician or physician extender. This role requires a thorough understanding of medical practices and procedures, as well as the ability to manage patient records and ensure confidentiality. The Medical Assistant will collaborate with the clinical care team to deliver exceptional patient care.
Responsibilities
+ Provide nursing care to patients under the direction of a physician or physician extender.
+ Perform triage for patient calls for urgent appointments or interventions under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse and Physician.
+ Provide patient health counseling, education, and instruction.
+ Support routine office procedures and collaborate with the clinical care team.
+ Maintain patient records, ensuring confidentiality at all times.
+ Conduct pre-visit planning by reviewing and updating patient charts with recent medication changes and test results.
+ Review and report lab results to the physician for further guidance.
+ Prepare patients for exams and treatments by escorting them from the waiting area to the exam room, obtaining urinalysis, and taking vital signs.
+ Document all information in the EMR.
+ Conduct and document monthly chronic care management encounters for enrolled patients.
+ Execute and document orders from physicians or physician extenders under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
+ Assist with scheduling tests and treatments as needed.
Essential Skills
+ Knowledge of medical practice and care.
+ Knowledge of examination, diagnostic and treatment room procedures.
+ Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments.
+ Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions within the clinical setting.
+ Ability to assist in common office procedures.
+ Ability to take and enter vital signs into Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
+ Skill in developing and maintaining clinical quality assurance.
+ Ability to maintain patient records while maintaining confidentiality.
+ 2-3+ years of experience as a medical assistant.
+ Current licensure, valid in Tennessee.
+ Current BLS certification.

+ Ability to perform and read urine test strips.
+ Ability to interpret lab results to report to physician.
+ Ability to use various types of equipment for examination and treatment procedures.
+ Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
+ Ability to maintain quality control standards.
+ Ability to identify problems and recommend solutions.
+ Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively orally and in writing.
+ Knowledge of basic arithmetic.
+ Basic computer skills.
Work Environment
The Medical Assistant will work Monday through Friday, from 8am to 4:30pm, handling a patient load of 30-35 patients one-on-one. The team includes a nurse, receptionist, and medical assistant. The role requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods, push, pull, and reach, and occasionally bend, sit, stoop, and stretch.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $24.00/hr.
