    Context of the Job:

    Under the general direction of the Associate Director of Educational Development, the Educational Development Specialist provides high-level support to University of Delaware faculty, promoting teaching excellence and innovation, fostering student learning, and building community at UD, with a focus on the University of Delaware’s General Education Initiative. As CTAL has since its founding in 1964, this position evolves, grows, and offers significant opportunities for personal and professional growth. CTAL staff are encouraged to take advantage of educational and training opportunities throughout the university and beyond. Work associated with this position gives the Educational Development Specialist opportunities to connect with colleagues throughout the University community and meet and work with students, graduate students, and faculty.

    Major Responsibilities:

    + Work closely with CTAL staff, University of Delaware faculty, staff in other units, to support pedagogy that is inclusive, centered on best practices in teaching in higher education.

    + As a member of the team, design and deliver programming that highlights learner-centered pedagogies, alternative assessments, and the appropriate use of academic technologies.

    + Write, revise, and digitally publish to the web timely teaching materials on a variety of topics that support instructors who wish to adopt new pedagogies, refine current practices, or engage in reflective work.

    + Work as a contributing and collegial member of a team, and to communicate proactively within the team environment.

    + Provide direct support in the following areas for university-wide educational development:

    + Educational Development

    + Provide consultations to instructors, departments, and other instructional groups on issues related to their teaching.

    + Design, deliver, and offer programming throughout the academic year on topics of key interest to our instructors.

    + Assess the effectiveness of educational development efforts within the Educational Development team.

    + Program and Project Support

    + Support campus-wide programming in educational development such as the Course Design Institute, including but not limited to selecting topics, designing presentations and materials, supporting communications, scheduling, and event management.

    + Provide project management for year-long initiatives, such as the (re)design of General Education courses guided by the Faculty Senate General Education Committee, including but not limited to calendaring, deadlines, task management, budgeting.

    + Support year-end project reporting through data analysis, summary writing, and review of goal alignment.

    + Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    + Master’s degree and two years of experience in educational development, college or university teaching, or equivalent combination of education and experience. A terminal degree in a field taught at UD is preferred.

    + Knowledge of educational research, theory, and practice in educational development; research and writing skills in the scholarship of university teaching and learning.

    + Ability to craft actionable recommendations from data.

    + Strong organizational and program management capabilities, including the ability to manage a variety of complex projects and priorities, coordinate with others, and follow projects through to completion.

    + Initiative to organize, prioritize, plan, and manage own work activities according to necessary timelines and schedules.

    + Tact and discretion with sensitive/confidential information.

    + Ability to operate comfortably in a wide variety of roles, whether behind the scenes, or publicly representing CTAL in a professional manner.

    + Excellent verbal, written, and digital communication.

    + Ability to establish and maintain respectful, cooperative, productive work relationships.

    + Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, WordPress, Google, Canvas LMS, and Qualtrics.
