Description of Work Unit
The Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences ( CVMBS ) is seeking a DVM Program Assessment Specialist. This position will join the CVMBS Academy for Teaching and Learning in supporting the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program ( DVM ) in curricular implementation and revision and promoting excellence in educational programs across the college; this will be an administrative professional position. This is an outstanding opportunity to support efforts in instructional support of faculty and learner assessment. This is a permanent position and lives within the CVMBS Dean’s Office.
Position Summary
The Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences ( CVMBS ) is seeking a DVM Program Assessment Specialist. This position will join the CVMBS Academy for Teaching and Learning in supporting DVM curricular implementation and revision and promoting excellence in educational programs across the college; this will be an administrative professional position. This is an outstanding opportunity to support efforts in instructional support of faculty and learner assessment. This is a permanent position within the CVMBS Dean’s Office. Due to the nature of this work, the position is currently not eligible for a hybrid or remote work schedule.
This position exists to support DVM curricular revision and educational excellence in the DVM program. The DVM program has adopted a structured approach to programmatic assessment, including the review and revision of existing assessment items, the administering of assessments using various assessment platforms (e.g., ExamSoft, Canvas), the review of exam performance, and the training of faculty in assessment writing best practices. This position is intended to support these efforts by providing the following benefits:
+ Administration of DVM assessment platforms (e.g., ExamSoft)
+ Support faculty with technical aspects of coordination and administration of most DVM summative assessments (e.g., load exams into ExamSoft, provide technical support for ExamSoft on test days, etc.).
+ Training for faculty in constructing assessment items
+ Development and refinement of student assessment strategies
+ Contribution to DVM Testing Center operations
+ Collaboration with DVM Student Services Team
+ Collaboration with University of Alaska-Fairbanks cohort to implement assessment platforms
This position will report to, and work with, the Assistant Dean of Teaching and Learning to execute the below responsibilities.
Note: This position will perform some duties in the James L. Voss Veterinary Teaching Hospital. It will include close proximity to and possible contact with many species of animals, including sick or injured animals, surgeries, or post-mortems. The position may also include working some events on nights and or weekends. Due to the nature of this work, the position is currently not eligible for a hybrid or remote work schedule.
Required Job Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree or higher in education (or related field) from an accredited college or university
+ Experience with learning management platforms and/or assessment software or similar platforms.
+ Demonstrated ability to work productively with students
+ Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
+ Demonstrated ability to perform detailed work, prioritize multiple tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced educational environment
+ Demonstrated ability to work independently and well as on teams, and to self-monitor progress and timelines
Preferred Job Qualifications
+ Master’s degree or higher in education (or related field)
+ Demonstrated ability to work productively with university faculty on teaching and programmatic efforts
+ Knowledge of curricular design and assessment principles
+ Data analysis and representation experience
+ Research experience, including literature searches and experimental design
Essential Duties
Job Duty CategoryDVM Assessment Revision and Implementation
Duty/Responsibility
+ Manage DVM assessment platforms (e.g., ExamSoft) including importing and tagging test questions, building and administering exams, and transferring assessment scores to Canvas.
+ Manage and troubleshoot student access to ExamSoft/Examplify platforms.
+ Support the DVM Assessments Committee in implementation of a program of assessment for all 4 years of the DVM program.
+ Guide faculty in revision of assessment items (e.g. review existing items, work individually with faculty, host assessment workshops, track assessment item performance over time, etc.)
+ Assist with development and implementation of alternative assessments for revised curriculum and dynamic assessment styles.
+ Assist with day-to-day operations of the DVM Testing Center (e.g. compile comprehensive program assessment schedule, communicate assessment changes from and to course coordinators, provide assistance with Testing Center coordination as needed, etc.)
