    A. POSITION SUMMARY :

     

    This position is a combined role that encompasses the responsibilities of both the Nurse Administrator and Coordinator of Nursing Education and reports directly to the Vice President and Assistant Vice President. As Nurse Administrator, you are responsible for ensuring that all individuals receiving services within the Manhattan residential programs receive appropriate and timely medical care in accordance with the regulations of the New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities, the Mental Hygiene Law of NYS, and the internal policies and procedures of Constructive Partnerships Unlimited.

     

    In your role as Coordinator of Nursing Education, you will coordinate training programs and in-service education for professional nursing staff and support staff and direct support care personnel. You will also provide supervision, training and guidance to the Nurse Educator team, collaborate with the Training Department, oversee the AMAP training program to ensure regulatory compliance and support staff competencies.

     

    B. NURSE ADMINISTRATOR POSITION DUTIES :

    1. Provide administrative, professional, and clinical supervision of the nursing staff assigned to residences, including IRAs within the borough of Manhattan.

    2. Develop and implement nursing procedures that align with current clinical best practices, professional standards, and the agency’s philosophy of care.

    3. Ensure the delivery of nursing and nursing-related services that support individuals in achieving or maintaining their highest practicable physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being.

    4. Oversee the quality and appropriateness of nursing services, as well as the performance and collaboration of medical doctors, consultants, and other healthcare professionals.

    5. Conduct clinical care nursing audits to ensure regulatory compliance in areas including medication administration, adherence to policies and procedures by AMAPs and DSPs, and accurate documentation of clinical visit summaries. Implement corrective action plans to address deficiencies in nursing practice and AMAP performance related to medication management and regulatory standards.

    6. Participate with nursing management to review, update and develop policies and procedures for clinical practice, as needed.

    7. Participate in the Interdisciplinary Treatment Team to ensure that all team members are aware of all medical conditions and care.

    8. Review reports daily to ensure timely, effective responses to significant changes in condition, transfer, discharges, use of physical restraints, unexplained injuries, potential abuse or neglect, medication errors; ensure communication to administration of findings and results.

    9. Attend meetings and participate on committees as delegated by the VP of Nursing and the Assistant VP of Nursing.

    10. Communicate directly with families, medical staff, nursing staff, interdisciplinary treatment team members, and department heads to coordinate comprehensive care and services for individuals receiving support.

    11. Conduct or delegate staff to perform required assessments; develop individualized plans of care and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions, ensuring timely and accurate documentation in compliance with state and federal regulations.

    12. Participate in the development, review, and revision of policies and procedures related to medical services. Effectively communicate and interpret these policies to nursing staff and monitor adherence to ensure consistent implementation.

    13. Perform other duties as assigned or delegated by nursing leadership, including but not limited to the development of policies, procedures, forms, and systems that support the efficient and effective delivery of care to individuals served.

    14. Serve as a liaison between the nursing department, interdisciplinary teams, and residential program leadership to promote a person-centered approach to care coordination.

    15. Conduct routine and as-needed site visits to ensure appropriate clinical oversight, regulatory compliance, and the delivery of high-quality nursing services. Provide immediate corrective actions and in-service education as necessary.

    16. Ensure staff compliance with facility policies and procedures related to workplace safety, including infection control protocols, universal precautions for bloodborne pathogens, appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and proper handling of hazardous materials.

    Nursing Education Coordinator:

    1. Develop and conduct education programs for nursing staff and direct support personnel

    2. Assist nursing staff with in-service training for direct care staff. Maintain and share current knowledge of trends in IDD nursing.

    3. Communicate regularly and hold scheduled meetings with Nurse Educators to develop and implement standards of care for the IDD community.

    4. Be available to staff for informal and formal training, as needed. Function as a resource for nursing inquiries, clinical care issues, and in the implementation of health information technology.

    5. Coordinate the Approved Medication Administration Program (AMAP) tracking process with the training department.

    6. Conduct AMAP training for the new and current Direct Support Staff (DSP).

    7. Curriculum development. Assist the nursing staff in the development of Plans of Nursing Service (PONS)

    8. Collaborate with the Nursing Department Leadership and the Training to develop training goals to help to achieve sustainable results.

    9. Collaborate in the development and implementation of newly hired and contract nursing staff orientation program.

    10. Review and communicate new OPWDD Regulations and updated clinical processes for the professional nursing staff.

    11. Visit Residential/Day Program sites as necessary to accomplish training goals and/or audits.

    12. Support nursing leadership and contribute to the evaluation of nursing staff adherence and competencies in nursing skills and performance. Initiate, develop and execute research studies, as directed by the VP and the Assistant VP of Nursing.

    13. Coordinate and communicate with auxiliary staff and other members of the care team, as needed to achieve best practices in managing the care of the people we serve.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    1. A NYS-Licensed Professional Registered Nurse with current license in good standing.

    2. Bachelor's of Science in Nursing; master's preferred

    3. 3-5 years nursing experience in the care of persons with Intellectual and Development Disabilities.

    4. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

    5. Ability to travel to and access multiple locations throughout the metropolitan area.

    6. Able to work flexible hours and/or days.

    7. Previous experience in a teaching setting preferred.

    8. Exceptional interpersonal skills.

    9. Performs all jobs responsibilities in full compliance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures in compliance with CPU standards.

    10. Adherence to CPU’s corporate compliance program, including the code of business conduct, the NYS and federal false claims act, whistleblower protections and mandatory reporting.

    11. Completes corporate compliance training and mandatory training at least annually and fully cooperates in all corporate compliance investigations and reviews.
