Materials Coordinator-Aggregate - District Five/District Materials & Research
This position will Evaluate project/process to determine current performance status. Perform Independent Assurance evaluations in the field as described in Department procedures and/or Federal Aid Policy Guide. Inspect materials for compliance in the field with Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).

Your Specific Responsibilities:
Evaluate project/process to determine current performance status. Make/recommend improvements to optimize delivery or improve results. Notify stakeholders of any changes to the project/process. Ensure project/process is consistent, predictable and repeatable.
Perform Independent Assurance evaluations in the field as described in Department procedures and/or the Federal Aid Policy Guide. Perform these evaluations in an objective and professional manner. Document and report findings.
Inspect materials for compliance in the filed with Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) specifications. Inspect facility and operation for compliance with their Quality Control (QC) plan and specification requirements. Document and report findings.
Support consultant contracts in accordance with applicable rules, laws and procedures. Review the consultant work effort. Review and comment on invoices.
Inspect laboratories for compliance in the field with Department contract and procedural documents. Review records, procedures, equipment and personnel as necessary to assess compliance with contract and procedural requirements. Provide feedback and technical assistance to laboratory personnel as appropriate. Document and report findings. Perform the follow-up inspections as necessary.
Perform field and/or laboratory testing in the field in accordance with the applicable Florida Sampling and Testing Methods (FSTM),. American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) or American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) test Method. Report results precisely in the appropriate database. Keep all testing equipment calibrated and in good working order.
Analyze materials data for contract and procedural compliance. Take timely action to report any errors in the data. Actively facilitate the notification of stakeholders of errors, failures or negative trends.
Provide materials related technical support to customers as requested. Provide support in time to meet the customers’ needs. Provide guidance and training to customers. Performs specialized operations and installations.
Review Quality Control plans, Construction plans, specifications, procedures and any other documents necessary to execute the Department’s mission. Provide clear comments as requested in time to be useful to the customer. Offer solutions when objecting to the approach that is proposed.
The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
+ The concepts, terminology, principles and analytical techniques of aggregates.
+ Engineering design, construction, production and/or operations.
Skills in:
+ Using engineering tools, equipment and/or instruments.
Ability to:
+ Operate a personal computer for word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
+ Analyze and interpret engineering data.
+ Solve problems relating to engineering.
+ Perform engineering inspections.
+ Apply engineering quantitative techniques.
+ Plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
+ Communicate engineering information effectively.
+ Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
+ Pick up to 50 pounds and move around uneven terrain without assistance.
Other Job-Related Requirements:
Due to the nature of this position, incumbent must respond to emergencies. Must possess or obtain and maintain American Concrete Institute (ACI) Aggregate Testing Technician Level I. Must pass or have passed Construction Math and contract Plans Reading Self Study examinations. While on-duty status, the position’s incumbent must be readily available to operate a commercial motor vehicle (CMV), consistent with the type of CDL license the incumbent is required to possess, or on a routine basis performs other CMV safety-sensitive functions. Class B Commercial Driver’s license is required.
Minimum Qualifications:
+ High School Diploma or equivalent.
+ Prior experience operating a personal computer for work processing and spreadsheet.
This position requires a valid Class (B) driver license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with the Department’s Driver’s Record Requirements Policy. An unacceptable driving record is defined as any of the following:
+ three (3) or more moving violations in the past three (3) years that accumulate three (3) or more points per violation;
+ any two (2) convictions of reckless driving in the past three (3) years;
+ a suspension or revocation of the driver license for moving violations in the past three (3) years; and
+ a suspension or revocation for refusal to take a sobriety test, or any suspension or revocation for a DUI conviction, in the past four (4) years.
Your driving record will be reviewed and the status of your driver license confirmed.
