    Description of Job

    This position exists to ensure orderly time scheduling and attendance of offenders for religious programs, as well as providing for security and supervision of offenders and staff. The Volunteer Coordinator is available to staff and offenders for communication and consultation pertaining to Department of Corrections and facility regulations and memorandums, as well as to enforce these policies and ensure compliance thereof.

    Job Duties include, but are not limited to:

    + Communicates and explains Department of Corrections policies and procedures to Academic, Vocational and other program staff, as well as ensures proper operation of programs by being knowledgeable and adhering to Department of Corrections regulations, State Personnel Rules and Colorado Revised Statutes;

    + Supervises program areas and staff including religious and volunteer programs, Library and Law Library, and as assigned, Academic and Vocational programs by visiting one (1) project work site per week, assisting the Education Administrator with problem resolution concerning the various program areas and monitoring at least one (1) religious program group meeting per week;

    + Coordinates and assists outside agencies in preparing and presenting proposals to the Management Team which would allow those agencies to enter the facility for the purpose of delivering programs to the offender population;

    + Maintains security, discipline and control of contraband in program areas by adhering to the Code of Penal Discipline, Administrative Law, Department of Corrections procedures, Colorado Revised Statutes and the use of restraints, chemical agents, etc., if necessary;

    + Obtains required annual training including courses mandated by Colorado Department of Corrections Administrative Regulations, as well as other training hours or classroom instruction deemed appropriate and necessary by the administration and/or supervisor;

    + Other duties as assigned.

     

    Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

    Minimum Qualifications

    High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) and three (3) years of corrections related experience.*

     

    *Corrections related experienceis defined as experience in which the employee provided adirectservice to/with inmates such as correctional officer, teaching, social work, nursing, food service, general maintenance; or worked directly with inmates in the implementation of a program such as correctional industries. Corrections related experience is not typically earned through clerical support positions.NOTE:Experience must be described in detail on your application to receive credit.

    OR:

    A combination of college course work in corrections, criminal justice or behavioral sciences and relevant experience as defined above may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis. (A copy of your college transcript must accompany the application in order to receive college credit).

    + One (1) year of corrections related experience (as defined above) at the equivalent level of CO II or higher;

    + Relevant years of state service:

    + Supervisory and/or leadership experience;

    + Knowledge and understanding of the Performance Management Program;

    + Staff scheduling experience / knowledge;

    + Presentation skills;

    + Ability to support and foster an environment for staff and offenders that supports departmental initiatives.

Eligibility to drive a State-owned vehicle, includes holding a valid Colorado driver’s license within 30 days of employment or residency change and meeting specific driving record criteria. Serious traffic violations, including DUIs or reckless driving, can disqualify drivers for up to seven years. A ll State Vehicles are monitored by telematics for safe operation and employees have no reasonable expectation of privacy while using an agency State Fleet vehicle.
