    UPMC Presbyterian is hiring a Lead Sterile Processing Technicians for evening (2 PM – 10:30 PM) and night (10 PM – 6:30 AM) shifts. This hands-on role requires standing for long periods, lifting heavy trays, scrubbing instrumentation, and meticulous attention to detail. Candidates must work select holidays and every third weekend, with occasional on-call duties. Join our dedicated healthcare team today!

    Responsibilities:

    + Independently manages the department on off-shifts, weekends, or in the absence of leadership.

    + Oversees staff scheduling, assignments, and training, ensuring compliance with policies on decontamination, sterile processing, infection control, and safety.

    + Prepares, assembles, and maintains surgical trays, equipment, and instrumentation while troubleshooting sterilization processes.

    + Acts as liaison between SPD and OR, coordinating department services and operational improvements.

    + Supports professional development, mentoring, and education programs for staff and students.

    + Leads performance improvement initiatives, cost-effective practices, and documentation management.

    + Communicates effectively, fostering teamwork, cultural diversity, and workplace well-being.

    + Applies critical thinking in clinical, safety, and patient care decision-making, enhancing the work environment.

    + Participates in committees, projects, and knowledge-sharing through presentations and publications.

    + High School Graduate or equivalent

    + Three years of central sterile processing experience required.

    + OR Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technician/Sterile Processing program with two years of central sterile processing experience required.

    + Annual Project Required. Must complete 10 hours of continuing education to remain qualified as a Central Sterile Technician on an annual basis.

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

    Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution or Certified Registered Central Service Technician or International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management certification required in our PA and NY facilities (MD is excluded).
