Our starting salary for a 1st year teacher with no prior experience starts at $45,000, with valid teaching certification and $40,000 if working towards teaching certification. Salary increases with years of prior experience. Will give up to 10 years of prior credit.

    Job Description

    REACH Academy Charter School is seeking a dedicated and passionate Special Education Teacherfor a self-contained, blended classroom environment (12:1:1 Grades 5-6-7). This educator will provide specially designed instruction to support the diverse academic and behavioral needs of students with disabilities while promoting an inclusive, rigorous, and nurturing learning environment. The ideal candidate is committed to educational equity and demonstrates an unwavering belief in the potential of every student.

    + Commitment to meeting the unique academic and social-emotional needs of students with disabilities through differentiated instruction and inclusive practices.

    + Fluency in English, with excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

    + Capacity to foster strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues.

    + Willingness to actively contribute to a collaborative and inclusive school culture.

    + Demonstrated knowledge of New York State Next Generation Learning Standards and the ability to design instruction that aligns to these standards.

    + Proficiency in analyzing student data and using it to drive targeted, evidence-based instruction and interventions.

    + Flexibility, creativity, and initiative in the classroom; open to adopting school-wide practices and contributing innovative ideas.

    + Excellent organizational and time-management skills.

    + High standards of professionalism, ethical conduct, and a commitment to continuous growth.

    + Knowledge and ability to implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), Behavioral Intervention Plans (BIPs), and all federal, state, and local mandates pertaining to special education.

    + Passion for working in an urban educational setting and dedication to educational equity.

    Primary Responsibilities

    + Deliver high-quality instruction aligned to the NYS Next Generation Learning Standards using the REACH curriculum.

    + Create a supportive, culturally responsive classroom environment that encourages academic and behavioral growth for all learners.

    + Develop, implement, and serve as the teacher of record for student IEPs, ensuring all services, goals, and accommodations are effectively delivered.

    + Implement engaging, differentiated lesson plans that meet the varied learning styles and levels of students in a self-contained, blended setting.

    + Maintain a well-managed classroom by enforcing consistent routines and expectations that support student learning and safety.

    + Use formative and summative assessments to analyze student performance and adjust instruction and interventions accordingly.

    + Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, and support staff to ensure inclusive, coordinated services.

    + Communicate regularly and effectively with parents/guardians about student progress and needs.

    + Maintain accurate records, progress monitoring data, and documentation in accordance with all regulatory requirements.

    + Participate in school-wide professional development, staff meetings, and collaborative planning.

    + Contribute to a school culture that values diversity, equity, and continuous improvement.

    + Implement behavioral interventions and strategies for students as needed, in alignment with student BIPs.

    + Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School.

     

    Qualifications and Requirements

     

    + NYS Professional Teaching Certificate in Students with Disabilities (or eligible for reciprocity).

    + Bachelor's Degree in education or related field required; Master's Degree preferred.

    + Prior experience teaching in a special education setting, ideally in an urban school environment.

    + Demonstrated track record of student achievement and a data-driven approach to instruction.

    + Strong commitment to REACH Academy's mission, values, and educational philosophy.

     

    Compensation

     

    REACH Academy Charter School offers a competitive salary based on a step scale that reflects prior years of experience and certification level. Entry-level salary for certified first-year teachers begins at $45,000.
