    We are seeking a well-qualified Plant Mechanic II with extensive experience performing highly skilled mechanical work in an industrial setting.

    + Performs inspection, repair or replace of specialized wastewater plant equipment.

    + Performs maintenance work in an industrial setting.

    + Troubleshoots and determines cause of equipment failure repairs, replaces, rebuilds, or rehabilitates pumps, valves and motors and other transmission equipment.

    + Performs major and general plumbing work on lines, fixtures, and valves throughout facility to include wastewater, sludge, hydraulic, air, water to include excavation, trenching and shoring.

    + Uses wastewater related computer software to maintain work orders, requisition parts and access an online O&M manual.

     

    Must have the ability to work in adverse weather conditions and may be exposed to confined spaces, hazardous chemicals that are acidic, highly corrosive, heat producing and potentially explosive.

    Note: Wastewater Management positions are responsible for providing uninterrupted sewer service to residents during extreme inclement weather or other emergencies. This position is designated as emergency service and is subject to 24-hour on-call and may be required to report to work during extreme inclement weather or other emergencies, including after-hours and weekend work during emergency incidents to fulfill emergency service duties.

     

    Employment Standards

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Any combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to the following: Graduation from high school, or a GED issued by a state department of education, or completion of a registered apprenticeship program and three years of experience in the maintenance and repair of pumps, motors and other wastewater equipment.

    CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:

    + A valid driver's license.

    + Backflow Prevention Certification within 12 months of hire.

    NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

    The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a pre-employment physical examination, and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    + 1 year performing various aspects of mechanical maintenance on rotation machinery and electromechanical equipment, diesel powered generators, cranes, structural supports and equipment, and pressurized piping systems.

    + 1 year experience diagnosing and tracing hard to locate defects or problems and initiating corrective action.

    + Confined Space certification

    + 4 years of experience in methods, tools, and testing equipment used by mechanics in the repair or overhaul and preventive maintenance of automotive types of gasoline and diesel engine.

    + 3 years of experience working independently as an industrial mechanic. This requires the ability to make independent judgments and decisions within the framework of oral and written instructions, procedures, and accepted trade practices.

    + 2 years of experience in plumbing, or other trades related to wastewater equipment repair.

    + 2 years of experience repairing, replacing, rebuilding, or rehabilitating industrial equipment/machinery.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to input, access, and retrieve information from a computer. Ability to stand, stoop, bend, stretch, walk, climb, kneel, crouch, reach, crawl, lift and handle materials with manual dexterity. Ability to use hand tools and lift/slide up to 50 lbs. with assistance. Ability to work in a variety of work environments, hot and cold weather and noisy environment. May be exposed to raw waste. Must be able to climb up and down a 40-foot ladder. Must be capable of pushing, pulling, lifting, bending, stooping, walking, and climbing to enter confined spaces such as in and out of catch basins and manholes. Per safety requirements, confined spaces may not be entered by persons who weigh 310 lbs. or more. Ability to use hand tools. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.

    SELECTION PROCEDURE:
