Job Summary:
The MRO Senior Category Manager is responsible for developing and executing strategic sourcing and procurement strategies for spend related to Shop Operations + Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) supplies and other related category suppliers. This role focuses on enhancing operational reliability and cost efficiency, while ensuring quality and safety across all facilities supporting Gerber Collision Centers and other Boyd Group companies. The position requires strong supplier management, negotiation skills, and deep market knowledge in Shop Operations + MRO products and services.
Subcategories included in Shop Operations + MRO category include, but are not limited to: Shop Supplies, Shop Equipment (welders, paint booths, etc.) and services.
Key Job Responsibilities
Category Strategy Development: Design and implement comprehensive sourcing strategies for Shop Operations + MRO supplies, considering market trends, supplier capabilities, and regulatory requirements. Continuously assess the category’s alignment with operational goals and cost reduction initiatives. Supplier Relationship Management: Build and maintain robust relationships with key suppliers and vendors. Lead supplier qualification, performance evaluation, and continuous improvement efforts in partnership with Boyd Operations and Continuous Improvement teams to ensure timely delivery and quality of Shop Operations + MRO products. Contract Negotiation & Management: Negotiate pricing, contractual terms, and service level agreements with suppliers to secure favorable terms that support both operational needs and cost objectives. Ensure contracts adhere to internal standards and industry regulations. Market Analysis and Benchmarking: Conduct regular market research to identify emerging trends, supply risks, and opportunities within the MRO sector. Utilize competitive benchmarking to inform supplier selection and negotiation strategies. Gain a deep understanding of the category market providing expertise to leadership and operational stakeholders. Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with internal teams including Facilities Management, Direct Procurement, Operations, Continuous Improvement and Finance to align procurement strategies with business needs. Facilitate communication to ensure procurement activities support overall operational efficiency and cost reduction goals. Inventory & Cost Optimization: Oversee strategies for inventory management, demand forecasting, and cost optimization of MRO and Shop Operations supplies. Implement measures to reduce carrying costs and minimize supply chain disruptions. Risk Management & Quality Assurance: Identify and mitigate supply risks related to MRO and Shop Operations products and services, including quality inconsistencies and supply interruptions. Develop and enforce quality control frameworks with suppliers to maintain high safety and performance standards. Performance Measurement & Reporting: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor supplier performance, cost savings, and process improvements. Prepare regular reports and dashboards to inform senior management on category performance.
Education and/or Experience Required (including certifications)
+ Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field.
+ 5+ years of procurement experience with a focus on MRO categories, preferably in a complex, multi-site organization. Experience managing other spend categories is a plus.
+ Demonstrated success in strategic sourcing, supplier negotiation, and cost optimization for MRO and Shop Operations categories.
+ Knowledge of Procurement tools and technology (preferably Workday) and ability to operationalize outcomes of Procurement activities via buy channel enablement and compliance management.
+ In-depth knowledge of maintenance, repair, and operational best practices along with relevant regulatory standards.
+ Experience with Procure-to-Pay systems, processes and best practices.
Required Skills/Abilities
Strategic Sourcing & Negotiation: Demonstrated expertise in developing MRO sourcing strategies and executing effective negotiation tactics to deliver cost savings and improve supplier performance. Market & Analytical Acumen: Strong analytical skills with the ability to conduct market research, cost analysis, and spend benchmarking for the MRO and Shop Operations sector. Relationship Management (Internal & External): Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build rapport and influence with internal stakeholders (Operations team, Continuous Improvement Team) and manage external vendor relationships effectively. Data Analysis & Reporting: Skilled in leveraging procurement analytics and digital tools to provide actionable insights. Familiarity with MS Excel, Power BI, or similar platforms for data visualization. Project Management: Proven ability to manage cross-functional projects, ensuring timely implementation of process improvements and procurement initiatives. Regulatory & Quality Focus: Solid understanding of quality assurance, safety standards, and regulatory compliance related to MRO and Shop Operations supplies and services.

Travel & Location: Boyd has corporate offices in Chicago, IL and Winnipeg, Canada. Preference is to be located in one of those areas, however, work from home is acceptable. Occasional travel may be required to visit supplier sites, attend industry events, or participate in meetings at Boyd Group’s corporate offices.
Tools & Technology: Proficient in using procurement software (e.g. Workday), ERP systems (e.g. Workday), and other digital tools such as Google Suite to manage internal processes and supplier relationships.
Safety & Quality Standards: Commitment to upholding high safety and quality standards, ensuring all MRO and Shop Operations category activities comply with both regulatory and internal policies.
Oversight: Capable of working independently and with minimum supervision

Compensation Details:
$140,000 - $180,000 / Year
Compensation is commensurate with skill, education and experience.
Supplemental Pay:
This position may also be eligible for Bonus opportunities tied to individual or business initiatives.
