    The mission of the Department of Corrections is to be a public safety resource for Arkansas families by providing professional management solutions and evidence-based rehabilitative initiatives for offenders.

     

    All DOC positions are designated as Safety Sensitive Positions and are subject to random drug testing pursuant to the Secretarial Directive governing Personnel Drug Testing. Medical marijuana usage, as defined in Amendment 93 of the Arkansas Constitution, prohibits Personnel in a Safety-Sensitive Position from the use of medical marijuana even if they are qualifying patient under the amendment and/or hold a registry identification card. Department Personnel are prohibited from the use or possession of a medicinal marijuana card pursuant to this policy and state law.

    Summary

    The Revocation Hearing Judge is responsible for conducting various hearings and legal research, drafting legal documents for use in litigation, and providing legal expertise and assistance to the Arkansas Post-Prison Transfer Board. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.

     

    Functions

     

    Conducts Revocation Hearings for the Post-Prison Transfer Board and the Arkansas Department of Corrections. Conducts Transfer Hearings and Post-Release Hearings for the Post-Prison Transfer Board as needed. Conducts Interstate Compact Probable Cause Hearings. Conducts training programs for Community Supervision Officers of the Division of Community Correction regarding Revocation Hearings. Conducts training for the Post-Prison Transfer Board as needed. Conducts legal research. Draft dispositions, pleadings, reports, policies, and legislation as needed. Prepares monthly status reports for the Post-Prison Transfer Board. Performs other related responsibilities as required or assigned.

    Knowledge of state and federal laws, rules, regulations, and precedents. Knowledge of legal research and writing protocols. Knowledge of policies and procedures. Knowledge of organizational skills and practices. Ability to work with the public and incarcerated felons. Ability to perform tasks in a secured facility and abide by the security regulations. Ability to research, analyze, interpret, and apply legislation and case-related information. Ability to conduct litigation. Ability to draft, present, review, and analyze oral and written information and documents.

    Minimum Qualifications

    The formal education equivalent of a law degree from an accredited law school; plus five years of legal experience. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.

    Must be licensed to practice law and admitted to the Arkansas State Bar in accordance with ACA §16-22-201.
