    Job Summary

    The University of Utah’s S.J. Quinney College of Law seeks a student-centered, strategic leader to serve as the **Assistant Dean of Career Development** . This senior administrative position oversees all aspects of career development, job placement, employer outreach, and professional mentoring for JD, LLM , MLS , and emerging undergraduate law-related programs. The Assistant Dean is a key member of the law school’s leadership team, collaborating across departments to develop and implement strategies that promote student success and employment outcomes.

    Responsibilities

    + Lead the Career Development Office ( CDO ), including strategic planning, staff supervision, programming, and operations.

    + Oversee student and graduate career development, job placement services, and professional mentoring.

    + Cultivate and manage relationships with legal employers locally and nationally; expand employer outreach and on-campus recruiting.

    + Create programming that supports diverse legal career pathways and enhances students’ career-readiness.

    + Collaborate with faculty and administrators to support student professional development.

    + Track, report, and analyze employment outcomes to the ABA , NALP , and U.S. News.

    + Promote a culture of continuous improvement and data-driven decision-making within CDO .

    + Support law school strategic planning, alumni engagement, and employer development initiatives.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Preferences

     

    + Experience in higher education, especially in a law school or similarly selective academic environment.

    + Familiarity with ABA and NALP employment reporting standards.

    + Proven ability to build strategic partnerships with faculty, alumni, and employers.

    + Experience with student success initiatives and career skill-building for underrepresented populations.

    + Proficiency with career services and student support technologies (e.g., Salesforce, Workday Student).

    + Ability to lead in a dynamic and collaborative academic environment.

    + Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

    + Understanding program assessment, outcomes measurement, and continuous improvement.

    + Experience with budgeting and resource management.
