Your Opportunity
You will perform data analysis, lake response modeling, water quality diagnostics, assess nutrient loads and reduction opportunities, permitting, and other technical support services in relation to our water resource group project needs. You will also write reports, develop plans, and implement steps to move projects toward closure in the most cost-effective manner. As a senior environmental scientist, you may also lead and mention junior team members, manage projects and clients.
Your Key Responsibilities
+ Lead and support a variety of water resource related projects and scientific investigations on aquatic ecosystems and watersheds
+ Work collaboratively between different offices and groups
+ Effectively manage and coordinate projects as a technical lead or project manager
+ Deliver excellent client service.
+ Executes specific technical tasks or requirements for medium to large projects.
+ Write and deliver high quality reports, which may include: field reports; permit applications; compensation plans; sustainability/restoration plans; environmental impact assessments; watershed/lake management plans
+ Quality control of data analysis and reports and a commitment to technical excellence
+ Identify emerging markets and business opportunities with existing and new clients
+ Develop appropriate marketing materials and strategies, including proposals
+ Provide technical direction and mentoring to more junior staff
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
+ Strong working knowledge of limnology and aquatic ecology required. Knowledge and experience working in Upper Midwest lakes and watersheds highly preferred.
+ Enthusiastic and goal-oriented team player with a positive attitude.
+ Demonstrated experience in consulting with excellent time management skills and record of operating within environmental consulting project budgets and schedules.
+ Demonstrated experience in aquatic sampling methods, environmental statistics and data analysis.
+ Proficiency in R Programming highly preferred.
+ Knowledge and experience working in Upper Midwest lakes and watersheds highly preferred.
+ In-depth knowledge of biogeochemical nutrient cycling in lakes, particularly phosphorus chemistry in lake sediments, is highly preferred.
+ Advanced skills in technical writing and communications to effectively exchange complex scientific information with clients, engineers and scientists, government regulators and agencies, and academia, as well as non-technical communication to the public.
+ Disciplined approach to project execution and technical excellence.
+ Ability to provide written and verbal directions on project delivery.
+ Shows leadership in striving to continuously improve technical performance.
+ Champions new ideas and initiatives and creates an environment that supports creativity and innovation.
+ Builds and maintains productive professional and personal networking relationships.
+ Drives collaborative efforts within the region and beyond to deliver consistent, high quality and appropriately scoped technical work.
+ Good driving record and valid driver’s license required.
+ Working knowledge of US Clean Water Act, and state water quality criteria in MN and WI are highly preferred.
+ Minimum of seven years of experience successfully executing technical aspects of medium-sized to complex projects. An appropriate combination of prior consulting experience and education may be considered.
+ Proficiency in MS Office applications required.
Education and Experience
+ Master’s degree in aquatic ecology, limnology, biology, or related environmental field is required.
+ Minimum 7-8 years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education (e.g., advanced degree) and experience. Previous consulting experience preferred.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.

Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s):
Salary Range(s):
* $87,400 for locations in MN - $131,000 for locations in MN Min/Max Pay Range(s) for postings located in MN, NYC/NY
The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
