    RESPONSIBILITIES

    I. JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Assists the pharmacist in the processing and filling of prescriptions and medication/medical supply orders. Reviews and enters orders & patient information into the pharmacy computer system. Processes and assists in the maintenance of pharmacy inventory. Performs sales transactions and provides customers/patients with information about medications, health insurance, and other health care related services. Files third-party insurance claims on paper and electronically.

    II. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    • Essential: standing for long periods of time, walking, stooping/bending, twisting body, finger dexterity, seeing, hearing, speaking; lifting usual weight of 3 pounds;

    • Frequent: reaching above, at and below shoulder level; repetitive arm/hand motion; frequent gripping of an object.

    • Occasional: lifting weight of 20 pounds; pushing/pulling usual weight of 40 pounds;

    • Operates various office/pharmaceutical equipment such as typewriter, computer, copier, fax, telephones, calculator, cash register, dispensing machines, etc.

    III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

    • Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions.

    • Some exposure to cold temperature from freezer.

    • Exposure to noise/vibration from office/pharmacy equipment.

    • Exposure to body fluids, chemicals and contact with patients with communicable diseases.

    • Work environment is fast paced, crowded and may be stressful.

    IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    A. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:

    • Completion of pharmacy technical program or on-the-job education/pharmacy work experience, preferred.

    B. EXPERIENCE:

    • One (1) year work experience, preferably as pharmacy technician/clerk.

    • Ability to effectively communicate in English, both orally and in writing.

    • Knowledge to handle cash transactions.

    • Demonstrate experience in:

    o Ability to be accurate and attentive to detail

    o Ability to work in a high-volume, sometimes stressful environment

    o Operating different machines such as computer, calculator, cash register.
