Description:
POSITION PURPOSE:
Under general supervision of the Manager of Clinical and Professional Development, the Education Specialist (ES) is a member of the MercyOne Dubuque and Dyersville Medical Center education team and is accountable for advancing and maintaining staff competence, enhancing professional practice, and supporting achievement of career goals. Assesses, coordinates and/or facilitates system-wide colleague development, orientation and mandatory education to MercyOne colleagues , and serves as a Learning Management System (LMS) (e.g. Cornerstone) Administrator. Additionally, the Education Specialist oversees the hospital volunteer program and assists with student observations and healthcare career outreach.
The Education Specialist cultivates an environment that promotes a desire and passion for lifelong learning by supporting the development of effective, quality, innovative, creative, and enjoyable continuing education activities, implementing evidence-based practice innovations, and continually evaluating further learning needs and/or practice changes.

What you will do:

Utilize research and evidence-based practice standards in the delivery of educational offerings. Contribute to the positive image of MercyOne Dubuque and Dyersville Medical Center and enhance the magnetic culture of the organization by modeling professional behavior both in the organization and in the community. Assures appropriate orientation, education and continuing professional development of personnel in accordance with Trinity Health, MercyOne, and/or Clinical and Professional Development oversight. Coordinate and/or facilitate educational experiences for all intern/clinical practicum students to include establishment of affiliation agreement with academic organizations and satisfaction of affiliation agreement requirements. Participate in the development of innovative professional development improvement initiatives within MercyOne Dubuque and Dyersville Medical Center as a whole. Serve as a professional role model and mentor to all MercyOne Dubuque and Dyersville Medical Center colleagues. Meet core competency requirements and Education Specialist competencies as specified below Participate in ongoing personal development and organizational activities (e.g., initiatives, meetings, etc.) to advance the educational goals of MercyOne Dubuque and Dyersville Medical Center. Coordinate the following general educational programs for MercyOne Dubuque and Dyersville Medical Center
+ **_Maintains BLS Certification/BLS Instructor Certification_** Provide AHA CPR and/or First Aid Training for identified departments.Includes staff assignments, record keeping, liaison with oversight organization (e.g., AHA), and teaching/coaching as needed.
+ **_Management of LMS BLS Certification Program/Simulation Manikins_** Monitoring of License Needs with current vendor.Communication with Director of Clinical and Professional Development regarding yearly license needs.Assignment of course to staff in LMS system.Monitoring of completions/reporting to Manager of Clinical and Professional Development and directors/supervisors of past due staffManagement of equipment including cleaning and resupply of lungs/valvesTrouble shoot issues with vendor and/or order replacement equipment.
+ **_MercyOne Dubuque and Dyersville Medical Center Orientation_** (MMOC) as scheduled in cooperation with Nursing Orientation; maintain agenda, coordinate with presenters, develop and present orientation content, manage changes as outlined by TJC and other regulatory bodies, coordinate LMS programs for colleagues and others; develop and communicate colleague housewide orientation schedules in collaboration department contacts, track attendance and maintain records.
+ **_Mandatory Reporter_** as specified by Iowa law; to include coordination and provision of all training through management and assignment of on-line programming per Iowa Department of Health and Human Services and serves as a liaison with Iowa state agencies as needed. Monitors & communicates delinquencies with human resources and colleague directors/supervisors.
+ **_TJC-and other required annual training_** ; Assigned via LMS or other learning media, per direction of MercyOne and/or Trinity Health subject matter experts. Track completions and provide communication/reports to department directors/supervisors/SMEs, as needed.
+ **_Academic contracts and affiliation agreements;_** maintain files, review new and renewed contracts for necessary content; monitor contracts for needed renewal, coordinate with President/CEO role for signature.
+ **_Learning Management System_** Administration/Maintenance/AuthoringCourse developmentAttend LMS learning opportunities/webinars and coordinates invitation to other SMEs as appropriate.
+ **_Volunteer Program Coordinator_** : Responsible for day to day management of the volunteer program for persons donating their time to serve the patients of MercyOne Dubuque and Dyersville. Includes identifying placement opportunities for volunteers, identifying onboarding requirements, conducting volunteer orientation, maintaining records, and ensuring annual requirements are met.
+ **_Healthcare Career Exploration_** : Supporting career outreach work and events including student job shadow coordination and healthcare career exploration fairs.

What we are looking for:
Education:
1. Bachelor’s degree in business, health administration, education or other relevant major required.
2. Master’s degree preferred.
Experience:
One year of experience in using information/learning technology for educational applications is required. Two years of experience providing healthcare related education is preferred. Two years of experience with administration of LMS (e.g., HealthStream or equivalent) informational technology or multimedia work is preferred. Experience in public speaking for group presentations required. Proficiency with audio-visual equipment.
Certification/Licensure:
Child and Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training required within 6 months of hire and every 5 years thereafter. Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) will be required within 30 days of hire and every 2 years thereafter. Basic Life Support Instructor Certification will be required within 365 days of hire and every 2 years thereafter.
Education Specialist Competencies:
Demonstrate applied knowledge of the principles of teaching and learning across the life continuum, instructional design, and provision of education/training to individuals and groups. Demonstrate effective independent work styles and collaboration within and across departments to develop programs and processes to meet general legal and regulatory educational requirements and provide an excellent orientation program for MercyOne Dubuque and Dyersville Medical Center staff. Effectively apply problem-solving and conflict management strategies. Provide recommendations regarding budgetary and technology issues related to areas of expertise. Demonstrate work-related organizational skills and ability to prioritize work given the needs of multiple stakeholders. Establish and cultivate professional networks within Trinity Health /MercyOne and the LMS communities. Operate a variety of educational technology (computers, projectors, AV Equipment, etc.) and adheres to MercyOne Medical Center policy and manufacturer recommendations regarding operation. Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills in working with others and in development of reports, proposals and educational content. Demonstrate moderate to high levels of applied competence with computers and relevant applications.
