    Job Title: Environmental Compliance Specialist

     

    Summary:This position will be responsible for driving environmental excellence at the Waterford site by supporting development of, implementation, and evaluation of compliance and pollution prevention systems in the area of waste generation, reduction, storage, treatment and disposal. Additionally, this individual will be responsible for assisting the environmental remediation leader with aspects of the remediation programs in place at the Waterford site including RCRA landfills and Solid Waste Management Units (SWMUs). This includes assisting with studies, writing reports, monitoring, overseeing the operation and maintenance of existing equipment, as well as identifying and implementing new technologies as needs and regulations may require.

     

    Partner with Operations and EHS team to lead and perform the technical work necessary to implement site RCRA permit requirements and design and implement hazardous waste management programs for on-going site operations and future projects.

    Responsibilities Include:

    + Identify and co-lead the implementation best management practices as required by the site RCRA permit including waste characterizations, material storage, treatment and transport.

    + Prepare RCRA permit modification applications for both existing site operations and future projects.

    + Shape and maintain in-depth knowledge of existing and proposed solid hazardous waste regulations as well as a strong working knowledge of hazardous materials transportation compliance

    + Assist, coordinate, and manage site waste shipments and site waste inspections.

    + Support Solid Waste Management Unit (SWMU) and landfill compliance activities.

    + Assist with a wide range of environmental investigation, remediation, and analysis projects.

    + Review draft regulations and communicate future impacts of emerging regulations and provide leadership and direction to Environmental and operations staff personnel.

    + Provide regulatory interpretations and technical advice to operations, engineering, and all other internal customers using effective communication techniques.

    + Work closely with DEC personnel including on-site monitor.

    + Direct and review the work of consultants and internal customers to drive first-pass acceptance by external regulatory agencies.

    + Recommend improvements in processes, management systems, procedures, and operating equipment to comply with environmental requirements.

    + Participate in industry associations, peer groups and other organizations to share and learn best practices, build relationships, address proposed regulations, and promote the company's interests.

    + Collaborate with environmental staff leaders, operations management, scientists, engineers, and other EHS specialists to address environmental concerns

    + As part of site EHS team, participate in overall site compliance activities, including spill reporting, audits and incident investigations.

    + Participate in on-call rotation as Regulatory Reporting Officer for making spill reporting determinations, contacting regulatory agencies as required, and participating in spill investigations, as needed.

    Qualifications:

    The following are required for the role

    + Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Engineer or closely related field

    + Must possess the skills to communicate and influence effectively across all levels of the organization

    + Must have excellent written and spoken communication skills, including strong computer and presentation skills

    + Must have demonstrated excellent quantitative, analytical and decision-making skills

    + Must have demonstrated ability to influence, engage and inspire others to effectively drive environmental change

    + Must have demonstrated attention to detail and successful project follow-through

    The following are preferred for the role

    + 1-5 years industrial experience

    + 1-3 years chemical industry experience

    + Working knowledge of EMS computer-based programs and/or electronic reporting environments

    + Demonstrated knowledge of RCRA permitting compliance activities

    + Experience successfully implementing state and federal environmental regulations in an industrial environment

    + Knowledge of federal and supporting state environmental/RCRA regulations

    The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, bend, stoop, climb, twist, turn, grasp and move about the facility. Walking, walking on irregular surfaces and balancing will be required. Hearing, sight to include depth perception and color vision and the ability to speak clearly will be required. Occasionally lifting and/or move up to 50 lbs. and the ability to comply with PPE requirements (ability to pass a fit-test and wear a respirator is required for certain positions/locations). The environment for this position is a Manufacturing setting, with exposure to outside weather conditions and loud noise. Candidates should be able to adapt to a traditional business environment.     What We Offer:Base Pay Range: $67,800 - $99,440

     

    The actua l salary offered i s determined by factors including but not limited to education, experience, skill set s, and geography. Local geographic pay differentials may not be reflected in the above pay range and will be discussed with you by a member of the HR team when applicable .     Additionally, this role is eligible for incentive or sales variable compensation payments. The amount of these incentives is based on the terms of the Company's incentive plans, the Company's financial performance, and/or individual employee job performance.
