As a Cardiovascular Technician Apprentice, you will assist in cardiac catheterization to ultimately gain the skills necessary to become a fully certified Cardiovascular Technologist (CVT). A caregiver in this position works days from 7:00AM - 5:30PM, with on-call and rotating holiday requirements.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

+ Under supervision of CV Tech, perform basic EKG interpretation, single and 12-lead ST segments analysis for ischemia/injury patterns and recognition of arrhythmias.

+ Recognize and interpret EKG changes related to all electrophysiology procedures, such as mapping, ablating and implanting of cardiac resynchronization devices.

+ Perform arterial and venous pressure monitoring, sampling and basic interpretation.

+ Document procedure completely and accurately including medications and supplies.

+ Perform patient observation.

+ Under supervision of the CV Tech, assist team members in acute cardiac care, including resuscitation and related therapeutic effects.

+ Under supervision of the CV Tech, utilize aseptic techniques throughout pre-, intra- and post-procedures.

+ Set up scrub procedures in both Cath and EP lab.

+ Prepare all instruments/equipment for decontamination and take them to the sterilization department.

+ Assist in room cleaning after each case.

+ Restock procedure room when cases are completed for the day.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

+ High School Diploma/GED

+ Completion of an approved Cardiovascular Technician Training Program within one year of hire

+ Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association

+ Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) through the American Heart Association within six months of hire

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

+ Six months of healthcare related work experience

+ Three months of Cath Lab experience

+ Nine months of experience in a scrub role

+ Two years of direct patient care experience in a hospital setting

Physical Requirements:

+ Workload is heavy and requires constant lifting, moving of patients, equipment, instrument trays, and supplies.

+ Able to lift items up to 50 pounds without assistance and greater than 50 pounds with assistance.

+ Stooping, pushing and pulling required when moving patients or equipment into position for surgery.

Personal Protective Equipment:

+ Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
