Position Overview
The Customs Compliance Manager (CCM) is primarily responsible for ensuring that all importations into Canada, for which Shaw Industries, Inc. is the non-resident importer, are conducted in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA). Responsibilities also include the management and maintenance of documentation for the purpose of the United States Mexico Canada Free Trade agreement (USMCA) requirements. The CCM will assist with the clearance of import shipments through Customs and Border Protection (CBP). The CCM will assist the Director of International Logistics & Customs Compliance (DILCC) and the Director of Customs Compliance (DCC) with implementing and managing compliance strategies, processes, and solutions with regards to Shaw importations worldwide.
Nature and Scope of Responsibility
The CCM reports to the DCC. The CCM is responsible for implementing and maintaining product databases which include information pertinent to the Customs clearance process in Canada and the United States. These databases are used in the automated creation of documentation required for shipment expedition. Responsibilities include communications with CBP, CBSA, trucking companies, and brokers to ensure timely processing of import shipments into Canada and the United States. The CCM reviews and analyzes reports as scheduled to support data accuracy and compliance. The CCM provides support to the DILCC, DCC, and other departments, when requested, with projects or assignments as required in addition to regular duties.
Primary Duties
+ Oversee the maintenance of support documents for eligibility of products to receive preferential treatment according to the USMCA. Support database tables housing tariff classification, duty rates, and country of origin information for all company products sold into Canada and Mexico.
+ Manually prepare export documentation from the U.S. as necessary to facilitate clearance through Canada Customs.
+ Review Default Tariff Report and process necessary corrections.
+ Provide necessary information to the Canadian broker regarding Shaw import shipments into Canada.
+ Oversee addition of styles to SPDT and to Shaw’s USMCA addendum when applicable.
+ Oversee shipments to Canada for trade shows or other specialized transactions when required.
+ Ensure accuracy of tariff classifications on all products shipped to Canada based on the Canada Customs Tariff Schedule by review of the Shaw default tariff report.
+ Oversee process of exports to the Shaw 3PLs in Canada, which includes preparation of manual CCI documentation for direct ship imports from foreign countries (other than the U.S.).
+ Maintain documentation in accordance with CBSA and Shaw Industries Group, Inc. retention policies.
+ Provide necessary information for clearance of U.S. imports to outsourced broker, primarily machinery, parts, and raw materials.
+ Verify classifications for Shaw customer returns from Canada for Customs clearance.
+ Determine classification and duty rates for Stage Gates of new products for use in the calculation of material cost.
+ File protests with CBP as needed.
+ Submit Customs requests or invoices for payment or deposit to the appropriate accounting department.
+ Monitor Drawback program.
+ Assist with Schedule B classifications for export shipments.
+ Run ACE reports.
+ Special Projects.
Preferred Skills
+ Knowledge and ability to use computers and related technology to perform analysis and effectively present ideas and recommendations to category teams and management (i.e. Microsoft Office Word, Excel spreadsheets, pivot tables, power point, V-Lookup etc.).
+ Knowledge of Canada and United States Customs processes and rules and regulations for the expert handling of Shaw’s imports into the designated commerce.
+ Understanding of Shaw systems or demonstrated experience in process of order placement to the delivery of shipment to the customer in Canada.
+ Possesses the ability to audit or implement documentation with a high level of accuracy.
+ Demonstrates thoroughness in researching and determining tariff classifications for Shaw products sold into Canada and imports into the United States.
+ Asks the questions necessary to understand the impact of the task they are being asked to perform, then accomplishes the task with concern for all interests within Shaw.
+ Able to communicate effectively, in both written and verbal formats.
+ Able to determine which situations require a sense of urgency and/or immediate action.
+ Willingness to gain the expertise and skill required to determine the necessary information needed in order to properly classify and manage the specifics of Shaw products sold in Canada and imported into the U.S.

+ Makes timely decisions based upon an appropriate amount of fact-finding and analysis and anticipates the consequences of decisions and solutions.
Minimum Qualification
+ High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
+ 5+ Years working experience in Customs brokerage processes and NAFTA requirements required).
+ Knowledge of transportation with regards to border crossing and clearances into Canada, as well as imports into the U.S. required.
+ Undergraduate degree preferred.
+ Customs Broker License preferred.
