The Opportunity
This position works out of our Tech Center in Little Canada/St. Paul, MN in the electrophysiology division.
In Abbott’s Electrophysiology (EP) business, we’re advancing the treatment of heart disease through breakthrough medical technologies in atrial fibrillation, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives.
As the Software Systems Engineering Manager you will be responsible for leading the software engineering team for definition, design, implementation and verification of our cardiac mapping and ablation systems. The focus of this role is on leading the definition required software behaviors including high level feature definition, architecture, design characterization, use case analysis and requirements authoring. This is a highly visible role where you will join the project leadership team having an opportunity to directly interact with key stakeholders including Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and world-class researchers. You will use your skills as a highly-motivated, execution-focused leader with the ability to define roles and activities necessary for a successful product commercialization.
What You’ll Work On
+ Build and manage a high-performance software engineering team by developing, mentoring and coaching each engineer as appropriate. Inspire and motivate the team members to achieve individual and project goals for on-time product delivery with exceptional quality
+ Design and deliver cardiac mapping systems with best in class data visualization and usability
+ Drive development of software requirements, architecture and functionality - with an emphasis on modularity and portability to allow reuse. Manage and enhance software architecture and technology stack to meet future needs and scalability
+ Manage the research and prototyping of new and innovative solutions; manage feasibility studies of the design to determine if capable of functioning as intended
+ Lead software development efforts with various external partners and subcontractors. Work with them to ensure that the work is getting done when it needs to be and with the quality and consistency we strive to deliver to our patients. Demonstrate strong and clear accountability for project success
+ Plan, execute and track projects and resources to meet goals
+ Ensure compliance with Abbott quality policies, procedures, and practices
+ Work effectively in cross-functional teams consisting of Clinical, Design & Usability, Marketing, R&D, Quality, and Regulatory
Required Qualifications:
+ Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Biomed Engineering, Computer Engineering or similar
+ Experience managing teams to deliver software from concept to delivery for complex systems
+ 8+ years of experience in software or systems engineering
+ 3+ years’ experience in Medical device development and/or other highly regulated industry.
+ Sound decision making and risk analysis skills
+ Experience working with cross-functional teams such as Marketing, Quality, and Systems Engineering to deliver on project commitments
+ Strong leadership skills, including the ability to set goals and provide positive and constructive feedback respectfully to build positive relationships and improve business results.
+ Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly to upper management and other stakeholders in different functions at various levels
+ Strong organizational, planning, and follow-up skills and ability to hold others accountable
+ Ability to work effectively a fast-paced changing environment.
+ Ability to travel approximately 15%.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Advance level degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Biomed Engineering, Software Engineering or related discipline
+ Experience with defining required software behaviors, for example, requirements elicitation, use case definition or requirements authoring
+ Experience in the Electrophysiology domain
+ Knowledge of QSR, ISO/EN and Quality Systems standards (e.g., 62304, TIR-45, etc)

The base pay for this position is $111,300.00 – $222,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
