Job Description
AbbVie’s Business Evolution Strategic Development Team is responsible for developing and executing forward-looking strategic plans that will ensure AbbVie’s readiness for, and ability to successfully navigate, potential changes in the healthcare environment. We are looking for a highly strategic and collaborative Senior Director, BESD to support critical enterprise efforts to tackle emerging healthcare trends. This role reports to the Vice President, BESD.
PURPOSE OF ROLE
Leads assessment of and strategy development for PBM Reform/Transformation with a 2–10-year horizon view. Leads large cross-functional workstreams leveraging strong collaborative relationships, data, analytics and strategic mind-set in all aspects of optimizing the development of innovative and actionable strategies to optimize AbbVie’s success over the LRP in a changing environment. Exhibits P&L mindset and deep understanding of the business models, incentives and challenges of stakeholders across the US Healthcare System – PBMs, Employers, Distributors, etc.). Effectively orchestrates work across internal teams and external partners including consultants, customers, Market Access, MABI, Government Affairs, Finance, Medical Affairs and Health Impact.
RESPONSIBILITIES
+ Lead the development and understanding of deep PBM Channel Dynamics and Transformation Drivers/Potential Scenarios to extraordinary depth in order to catalyze systemic thinking and innovative business solutions to excel as the PBM model undergoes incremental or transformational change
+ Identify opportunities to shape the future PBM/Payer/Access environment in line with AbbVie’s patient-focused goals, priorities and future pipeline
+ Build and lead a range of cross-functional teams to drive External Environment-related priorities related to PBM reform and transformation
+ Monitor, understand, and prioritize external trends of relevance to the enterprise, and help determine how AbbVie should prepare and/or respond
+ In collaboration with relevant functions, drive internal and external stakeholder assessments in order to anticipate changes in the external environment, and to understand levers to improve outcomes
+ Serve as strategic partner to Government Affairs, Legal, Commercial, and Corporate Affairs, R&D, and Medical Affairs and Health Impact leaders across major transformational initiatives to define objectives, scope, clear deliverables and workstreams
+ Help communicate and execute strategies to address PBM-transformation disruptors across AbbVie
+ Create senior level customer/stakeholder connections in collaboration with Account Management Teams to understand stakeholder POV and future-looking approaches to the market
SKILLS
+ Vision and Strategy: Leverage breadth of PBM Industry experience to provide overarching leadership and direction for future PBM transformation vision, strategies, plans and resource investment for AbbVie stakeholders. Align and lead the charge. Encompass a “One AbbVie” mindset and perspective in all strategies.
+ Action and Accountability: Establish definitive PBM Industry expertise within AbbVie and consistently triangulate market dynamics, PBM/GPO stakeholder needs, and business priorities to determine best, market-advantaged PBM Transformation elements and/or opportunities to shape external environment or AbbVie business practices to best succeed over the LRP.
+ Leadership and Influence: Own responsibility for PBM transformation assessments and understanding. Influence and persuade across multiple external and internal constituents (stakeholders and partners). Lead and develop direct, indirect and cross-functional teams.
+ Collaboration and Teamwork: Work effectively with internal stakeholders, external market experts and support partners to assimilate leading insights, strategy development and cross-functional execution.
Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s Degree required. Advanced Degree/Masters in related healthcare field desirable
+ Minimum of 10 years of Pharmaceutical Market Access, Healthcare or Policy experience
+ Five or more years of leadership experience in a top-tier PBM or Payer including deep operational knowledge and leadership of key functions (e.g., Pharma Strategy/Industry Relations, PBM/GPO Enterprise Strategy Development, etc.)
+ Demonstrated strategic thinking and strategic execution skills
+ Recognized team player with proven facilitative leadership skills in a cross-functional team environment. Proven performance in a matrix environment with ability to lead, influence and align stakeholders
+ Proven ability to operate with independence and project ownership to structure and drive complex project plans to address a wide range of problems in situations of ambiguity
+ Strong analytical skills. Recognized ability to evaluate complex issues from multiple perspectives to ensure that balanced risk assessments inform robust strategic recommendations
+ Excellent oral and written communication skills
+ Optimistic, inquisitive, and able to drive results independently
+ Strong communication skills, demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally, and ability to build strong stakeholder relationships across company functions
+ Deep knowledge of the current and emerging US access, reimbursement, and pricing landscape for pharmaceutical products (both Pharmacy and Medical reimbursement)

+ The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.
