    Description:

    General Summary:

    Pharmacy Residents are fully licensed pharmacists and practice in areas appropriate for pharmacists. The primary task of the Resident is completion of the ASHP Residency Learning System requirements for the Pharmacy Practice Residency in the 12-month period of their residency.

     

    The focus of this position is on education and development versus traditional pharmacist services in support of production or provision of pharmacy services to support patient care. . The resident provides direct patient care and performs the functions of a pharmacist within multiple patient care settings.

     

    The pharmacy resident is responsible for coordinating the drug therapy process on a specified medical service or patient care area on a daily basis. The Pharmacy Resident is responsible for drug selection, drug information, dosing, monitoring, outcomes management and patient interviews, education and counseling.

     

    The pharmacy resident supports the operations of the pharmacy department and participate in the distribution of medications and the supervision of pharmacy technicians in distributive functions and departmental operations under the direction of the pharmacy operations manager and associate director of pharmacy.

     

    Supports the Mission of Trinity Health and Holy Cross Hospital

    Licensure/certification required (if applicable):

    Valid Registered Pharmacist license issued by the Maryland Board of Pharmacy

     

    BLS and ACLS Certified

    Minimum Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required:

    Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy.

     

    Able to communicate effectively, speak, write and comprehend English.

     

    Able to work cooperatively with hospital and pharmacy staff in order to meet departmental objectives. Must be able to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule.

     

    Preferred: Knowledge of software: Word, Excel, Power Point.

    Working Conditions:

    **Physical Requirements** : Capable of exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Some pushing and pulling of carts is required along with bending, stooping (10% of time), considerable standing and walking (50% of time) and occasional lifting, usually no more than twenty pounds.

     

    Must have auditory acuity.

     

    **Visual Acuity** : Required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes.

    **Environmental Conditions** : The worker is subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals. Strict aseptic technique must be followed in preparation of intravenous admixtures and chemotherapeutic agents and precautions must be taken against personal risk of contamination and exposure to infections during cardiac arrest team service.

    Reporting Relationship:

    Reports directly to the Associate Director of Clinical Services/ Residency Program Coordinator. All departmental operations are overseen by the Associate Director of Pharmacy.
