Responsibilities
Job Summary / Purpose
Under the direction of the Medical Floor Director, the Unit Coordinator functions as a receptionist, medical secretary, and communication clerk. The Unit Coordinator is responsible for all clerical duties of the medical staff and patients as well as communication to and from the Unit.
Essential Key Job Responsibilities
+ Acts as a receptionist for the unit. Acts as a communication liaison by greeting new admissions, greeting and directing visitors, dispensing information as directed.
+ Proficient in computer skills specific to the department, and operation of equipment in the department, including FAX, telephone, and photocopier.
+ Accurately transcribes physician orders. Accurately orders labs, diets and tests for all patients on the unit.
+ Collaborates with the nursing team to expedite the admission, transfer and discharge of patients.
+ Answers the patient call system graciously and expediently directs the nursing team to assist as needed in a timely manner.
+ Must meet competences as noted on the skills checklist within 90 days of employment.
+ Accountable for obtaining information regarding department, hospital, and committee communication.
+ Notifies the switchboard and other appropriate personnel in case of fire, disaster or code situations.
+ Greets patients, visitors, employees and physicians courteously and determines their needs in a helpful proactive manner.
+ Initiates, maintains, and breaks down medical chart records for all patients on the unit.

Required Education and Experience
High School Diploma or GED.
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Training
Must be able to independently organize work and prioritize tasks. Skilled in office procedure and the ability to communicate well with others, and treat information and people in a professional and confidential manner. Able to work in a distracting environment, adapting to frequent interruptions while maintaining efficiency, a calm demeanor and a pleasant approach. Computer proficiency and skilled in keyboarding and a basic knowledge of medical terminology.

Pay Range
$15.00 - $20.33 /hour
