    The Social Studies, Arts, Humanities, PE, and Health Coordinator will provide guidance and support in assisting local education agencies in the implementation of the Idaho Content Standards. Additionally, this position leads and supports the content standards review process for each content.

     

    This individual will support the efforts of local education agencies in aligning curriculum, instruction, intervention programs, and assessments to the Idaho Content Standards to increase student achievement and success across all content areas. This individual must have a strong background and experience in standards-based instruction.

     

    Successful candidates will have a strong understanding of the Professional Learning Community practice and experience participating in and/or leading PLC’s teams. This individual will play a key role in supporting LEA’s and charter schools in their efforts to implement the PLC model in their buildings.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Serve as the subject matter expert for Social Studies content, instruction, and standards in grades K-12

    • Serve as a resource and liaison for Arts, Humanities, PE, and Health content, instruction, and standards in grades K-12

    • Support the content standard review process for Social Studies, Arts, Humanities, PE, and Health

    • Support local education agencies in the implementation of the Idaho Social Studies, Arts, Humanities, PE, and Health content standards for grades K-12.

    • This includes supporting schools implementing the PLC process (including RtI/MTSS) in their buildings.

    • Provide policy interpretation, technical assistance, PLC support, best practice modeling and training (virtual and in-person) to Idaho schools.

    • Present information related to Social Studies to a variety of audiences, including teachers, administrators and other stakeholders.

    • Attend local, state, and regional conferences, seminars, and meetings, including serving as the Department representative on committees, study groups, councils, task forces, and related associations, as directed.

    • Collaborate with representatives from teacher education preparation programs at Idaho higher education institutions and alternative teacher preparation programs.

    • Develops manuals, and other resources to support reading and literacy

    • Maintain, update and develop Social Studies, Arts, Humanities, PE, and Health website content.

    • Coordinate the United State Senate Youth Program in Idaho.

    • Keep current on best instructional practices

    • Track and manage projects and budgets.

    • Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with SDE policies, procedures, and safety practices

    • Performs other related duties as required.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university

    • Idaho Teaching Certificate with Social Studies (6-12) endorsement

    • Experience participating in successful Professional Learning Communities

    • Knowledge of effective PLC practice, including the use of frequent formative assessment

    • Successful implementation of the Idaho Social Studies Content Standards demonstrated by three or more years of teaching Social Studies

    • Experience in curriculum development, formative assessment design, instructional practices, and professional development for adult learners (teachers)

    • Strong technology skills and experience using technology for teaching and learning

    • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects throughout the state of Idaho

    • Ability to travel periodically (monthly), both in-state and out-of-state as needed

    • Strong communication skills; ability to communicate well, orally and in writing, to a variety of audiences

    • Interpersonal skills and abilities to work effectively as a member of a team, promote team goals, collaborate and positively contribute to team climate

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:(Extra consideration will be given)

    • Master’s degree

    • Additional endorsement in Arts, Humanities, PE, and/or Health

    • Experience teaching Arts, Humanities, PE, and/or Health

    • Specialized training related to reading and literacy instruction

    • Experience providing professional development to educators

    • Experience creating priority/essential standards with assessment alignment

    • Experience teaching, modeling and leading the PLC process

     

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: (with or without reasonable accommodation)

    This position requires the ability to perform the following physical and job-related tasks:

    • Operate standard office equipment such as a computer, telephone, copier, and scanner.

    • Perform general administrative duties including typing, filing, answering phones, processing paperwork, and assembling office materials.

    • Read, review, and process both printed and digital documents.

    • Navigate websites and online systems; identify and respond to safety concerns; greet and assist visitors.

    • Maintain focus and attention to detail for extended periods.

    • Understand, communicate, and follow through on program support tasks and responsibilities.

    • Approximately 90% of time is spent sitting at a desk or workstation, up to 4 hours at a time.

    • Approximately 10% of time is spent standing, walking, bending, or kneeling.

    • Occasionally lift items, typically weighing under 5 lbs., and occasionally up to 20 lbs.

    TRAVEL REQUIRED:

    This position requires up to 30% travel time, both in and out of state, for training, district support, meetings and conferences.

    ADDITIONAL BENEFITS INCLUDE:

    Vesting in the Public Employee Retirement System of Idaho (PERSI): All employees of the Idaho Department of Education are non-classified. They are appointed by the elected official and serve at the pleasure of the elected official. As such, employees working at a non-classified agency are considered vested in the PERSI retirement system after five (5) consecutive months of service, versus five (5) years of service at a classified agency.

     

    Tuition Fee Waiver: All Idaho Department of Education employees in permanent full-time positions may register for instructional courses during any academic period, at any participating state funded institutions of higher education, for a $20.00 nonrefundable registration fee per semester and $5.00 per credit hour charge.
