Description
Basic Function/Overall Responsibilities: The Occupational Therapist will apply purposeful, goal-oriented activity in the evaluation and/or treatment of children/adolescents whose function is impaired by physical illness or injury, emotional disorder and/or learning or developmental disability in order to achieve optimum functioning. The practice encompasses evaluation, treatment, and consultation. Services are provided individually or in groups.
Principal Assigned Responsibilities:
+ Establish and maintain a referral process.
+ Complete an Occupational Therapy evaluation assessing the student's developmental level and functional abilities and deficits as related to the student's educational level.
+ Document the results of the evaluation together with applicable recommendations.
+ Notify treatment team members upon completion of written evaluation document.
+ Refer non-IEP students to the Committee on Special Education as services are warranted.
+ Identify long and short-term annual goals prior to the start of services.
+ Schedule students to begin receiving services.
+ Design a treatment program for each student based on the results of the evaluative process.
+ Provide direct Occupational Therapy services to students determined to be in need of services.
+ Document the services provided including techniques utilized, results, and frequency of services.
+ Re-evaluate students receiving services on a yearly basis; document results and recommendations.
+ Prepare and document discharge recommendations.
+ Provide clinical training and supervision to Occupational Therapy students.
+ Maintain and update professional knowledge and skills and seek consultation to assure continued competency.
+ Develop and coordinate Occupational Therapy programs within the education curriculum.
+ Provide consultation to educational and life space staff regarding the identified special needs of children and activities to enhance their potential.
+ Provide in-service education for designated staff.
+ Participate in CSE meetings as necessary for students identified as needing OT services.
+ Maintain current certification and licensure as required by state regulations.
+ Order and maintain supplies for evaluation and treatment.
+ Take part in QI training and demonstrate commitment and active participation in the agency's ongoing Quality Improvement Program.
+ Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications
Education & Experience Requirements:
+ Master’s degree in occupational therapy preferred.
+ Bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy required.
+ Currently licensed and registered by NYSED as an Occupational Therapist.
