Job Description
_Salary range for position: $110,000 - $145,000, commensurate with experience._
POSITION SUMMARY:
The MEMS Development Engineer will work on the development of innovative MEMS technology and will characterize the MEMS devices throughout the manufacturing and development process. You will work in a clean room environment, requiring clean room gowning (smock, hood, gloves, booties, etc.). Ideal candidates will have Master’s or PhD in Material Science, MEMS, Material Engineering , Physics, Applied Physics or a related field and, preferably, three or more years hands-on experience working on MEMS fabrication and characterization.
**Knowledge:** A seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of area of specialization; resolves a wide range of issues in creative ways. This job is fully qualified, career-oriented, journey-level position.
**Job Complexity:** Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Networks with senior internal and external personnel in own area of expertise.
**Supervision:** Normally receives little instruction on day to day works, general instructions on new assignments.
**Experience:** Typically requires a minimum of 3 years of related experience with a Master’s degree or PhD without experience; or equivalent work experience.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
+ Characterize MEMS devices using various metrology tools.
+ Develop advanced manufacturing process flows for novel MEMS devices.
+ Develop novel packaging and integration schemes for MEMS devices.
+ Develop new or improved manufacturing and testing processes that are necessary to achieve the performance and cost requirements of future device applications.
+ Identify and correct problems in MEMS devices by using experimental methods such as DOE.
+ Prepare analysis reports.
+ Interface with manufacturing and engineering departments as well as vendors.
+ Use good problem solving and project management skills to solve the wide array of technical problems.
+ Communicate especially well and motivate others outside and inside the department to resolve problems and accomplish work through various company resources.
+ Organize technical problem solving strategies clearly and present them effectively to all concerned parties.
Job Requirements *
QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED:
+ Master's or PhD in Material Science, MEMS, Material Engineering , Physics, Electrical Engineering or a related field or equivalent experience.
+ Experience in MEMS fabrication, characterization and packaging.
+ Experience with one or more of the following :
SolidWorks or AutoCAD
MEMS layout tools (e.g. dw-2000 or Tanner L-edit);
MATLAB computing software and Simulink simulation tool;
+ Excellent problem identification and problem solving abilities.
+ Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills, in order to effectively present information to peers and management.
+ Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
+ Excellent analytical skills.
+ Strong working knowledge of standard office software, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
+ Ability to work in clean room environment.
+ Ability to prioritize and finish assigned work in an efficient and timely manner with minimum supervision.
DESIRED:
+ Experience in MEMS process integration from concept to finished product.
+ Experience with Piezo inkjet or other MEMS devices incorporating complex fluidic, electrical and packaging designs.
+ Experience in MEMS design is a plus.

+ Works in wafer fabrication and clean room environment, requiring clean room gowning (smock, hood, gloves, booties, etc.)
+ Exposure to stored energy hazards (electricity, compressed gases, etc.)
+ Exposure to moderate noise levels.
+ Works in a facility that houses hazardous chemicals.
+ May potentially handle hazardous waste in accordance with the safe work practices defined in Hazardous Communication and Hazardous Waste training programs. Initial training is required upon hiring status and every 3 years thereafter. Employees handling hazardous waste will insure that waste containers in their work areas are properly labeled and dated. Employees will ensure that waste containers are closed after transferring waste to them. Report any incidents involving hazardous waste to supervisor.

+ Other manufacturing and/or administrative duties as may be assigned.
+ Each employee’s primary objective is to assure that the quality, delivery and cost controls within his/her control meet or exceed all of our internal and external customers’ requirements.
+ Each employee is required to abide by the Employee Handbook and the rules and regulations explained and provided at each orientation and training session. Special attention must be given to the safety aspects of these documents.
