This work is related to the maintenance and repair of State-maintained roads within Gaston County. This supervisory position will be required to work in diverse working environments performing various general maintenance operations. The recommended applicant will supervise a roadway maintenance crew that is working in and around heavy traffic, near heavy equipment and with power tools. The recommended applicant must be able to maintain a close team environment or work independently as needed. Responsibilities include the supervision of a roadway maintenance crew that is involved in pavement patching, drainage maintenance, shoulder repair, paved and unpaved roadway maintenance, vegetation management, snow and ice removal and emergency response to roadway maintenance needs. This position is required to work nights and weekends as needed for emergency and planned operations in all types of weather conditions and on uneven surfaces and slopes. Position will investigate and answer concerns from the public.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

+ Experience in record keeping, such as tracking employee and equipment time and recording quantities of materials used
+ Experience in NCDOT snow and ice operations
+ Experience in Intermediate Work Zone Safety and NCDOT Workplace Safety Policy and Practices.
+ Experience in planning work and supervising a work crew
Additional Expectations:
Working safely is a condition of employment. Operate State vehicle, Manual and Automatic, and assigned equipment effectively. Follow instructions to complete assigned tasks without supervision. Use of tools associated with related Road maintenance and/or construction activities. The ability to exert in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/ or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/ or in excess of 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. This job will require work to be performed while suspended at moderate heights, confined areas, over water, in water, in extreme heat and cold, and during inclement weather. Safety toe footwear meeting ASTM F2413-05 is needed. As a condition of employment, a release form (ALCDRG-01) and a background statement (ALCDRG-06) must be completed and signed allowing NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past two years about controlled substances and alcohol testing. Class A CDL with N endorsements required.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school or General Educational Development diploma and six years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and directly related experience. Experience must be related to functional area of the work that the position will supervise.
