The Sr. Manager, Event Accounting leads a team responsible for project budget development, program billing (including client, hotel, and supplier invoicing), cost monitoring, and allocation. This role ensures accurate and timely revenue recognition in compliance with GAAP by managing reporting, reconciliation checklists, and documentation. The Sr. Manager also provides regular reporting and financial analysis to business and finance leaders, offering insights that support decision-making. Additionally, this role is responsible for ongoing team development, delivering training on Oracle system tools and deepening expertise in the association and tradeshow industry.
PEOPLE MANAGEMENT 40%: Develops and manages team through performance management activities including training, recognition, coaching, and other developmental objectives. Conducts interviews and maintains appropriate staffing levels. Reviews current data and makes appropriate adjustments to provide an accurate ongoing forecast. May also perform the following: Recommend and implement standard policies, systems, and procedures related to Event Accounting matters. Leads training initiatives pertaining to revenue recognition for all financial and/or non-financial employees. Reviews and/or approves financial documents including payables, receivables, receipts, invoices, credit memos, and journal entries.
PROJECT & REVENUE RECOGNITION SUPPORT 20%: Provides daily support and direction to assigned team members, external clients, account teams and support areas with project budget creation, client/hotel/supplier program billing, project cost monitoring and cost allocation, and the management of revenue recognition reporting for all association and tradeshow events. Provide management support and direction regarding programs recognition of revenue and cost based on GAAP guidelines. Delivers continuous training to team to build expertise regarding Oracle system tools and association and tradeshow industry. Review/discuss contract/billing issues impacting revenue recognition policies with staff, Event Accounting management, Business leaders, and Finance leadership as appropriate. Coordinates internal and/or client audits for association and tradeshow events.
ANNUAL AND MONTHLY ANALYTICS AND CLOSING PROCESS 20%: Reviews forecasted business monthly including forecast to forecast and forecast to budget variance analysis with Event Accountants. Provides client account and project analysis. Analyzes cost allocation methods used, collaborates with Operations Leaders, and makes recommendations to improve account and/or project profitability. Provides other analysis as needed such as profit and loss analysis or missed revenue. Reviews actual results to ensure accuracy of monthly forecast and revenue recognition. Completes month end closing process and attends monthly project reviews. Provides variance analysis and monitoring of balance sheet accounts.
Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent Maritz experience with demonstrated ability to succeed in a managerial role.
+ 5–7 years of experience in key areas including accounting, financial reporting, customer contracts, client billing, accounts receivable, and financial analysis.
+ Prior experience working directly with clients, sales and operations teams, and/or support staff.
+ Strong communication and project coordination skills.
+ Minimum of 3 years of management experience.
+ Knowledge of the travel industry and/or experience with Oracle or ERP application software is a plus.
+ Ability to travel as needed to support program operations.
