Lisa Cole with Robert Half is looking for a highly skilled Senior Project Accountant to lead the financial operations of our construction projects. This role is critical to ensuring accurate billing, effective cost management, and full compliance with accounting standards and contractual obligations. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, analytical professional with strong communication skills and a deep understanding of project cost controls, billing, and financial reconciliation.

Key Responsibilities:

+ Lead monthly progress billings, including lien releases, using Excel, MS Dynamics AX, Textura, and other platforms.

+ Collaborate with project managers to manage invoice preparation and billing schedules.

+ Prepare and analyze over/under billing reports; contribute financial insights to project teams.

+ Process monthly and miscellaneous customer invoices accurately and timely.

+ Review and approve change order budgets in line with project scope and financial controls.

+ Coordinate project startups including contract setup, billing terms, preliminary notices, and insurance documentation.

+ Maintain organized, audit-ready billing records and documentation.

+ Oversee financial project closeouts and compliance with contractual and internal requirements.

+ Maintain supplier and sub-tier release logs; resolve discrepancies with AP and project management.

+ Monitor billing schedules and ensure prompt collections and lien release compliance.

+ Conduct job cost analysis and perform reallocations as necessary for financial accuracy.

+ Reconcile project accounts; identify and correct discrepancies.

+ Support internal and external audit requests with complete, accurate documentation.

+ Record and apply incoming deposits accurately to project accounts.

+ Perform credit checks for new customers and assist with onboarding, including ACH setup.

+ Maintain billing logs, retention tracking, and documentation of projects without current billing.

+ Proactively identify areas for improvement in billing and reporting processes.

+ Ensure billing activity is aligned with project contracts; manage collections and invoice cycles.

Requirements

Qualifications:

+ 5+ years’ experience in project accounting, preferably in a construction or project-based environment

+ Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including PivotTables, VLOOKUPs, and data analysis

+ Strong understanding of construction billing procedures, lien rights, and project cost controls

+ Experience with Microsoft Dynamics AX or other ERP/accounting systems

+ Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to multitask in a deadline-driven environment
