Duties Description As a Treatment Unit Clerk, you would work on a ward or unit of a psychiatric center and be responsible for the preparation, maintenance, and monitoring of a variety of clerical records and reports related to the activities of employees and patients in the assigned work area. You would also be required to respond to routine inquiries regarding the functions/programs of the unit or treatment service from visitors or employees and patients from other areas of the facility. Responsibilities may also include ordering and maintaining an inventory of unit supplies and performing miscellaneous clerical duties necessary for the efficient operation of the assigned work area. Depending on the organization of the facility, you might have responsibility for performing these functions for a building, treatment unit, service ward, or group of wards. In all cases, you would be assigned to work in patient areas.
Minimum Qualifications Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement – Statewide (NY HELPS) program as a Treatment Unit Clerk if they have 18 months of clerical, secretarial, or direct care experience in a mental health facility or setting.ORCandidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement – Statewide (NY HELPS) program as a Treatment Unit Clerk Trainee if they have one year of clerical, secretarial, or direct care experience in a mental health facility or setting. ORCandidates from within State Service can be considered for transfer to a competitive class position if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.Please Note: After successful completion of a six-month traineeship, candidate appointed as Treatment Unit Clerk Trainee will automatically advance to the Treatment Unit Clerk, SG-7, without further examination.
