    Job Purpose and Summary:

    The Lead Director, Merch Opportunities is responsible for driving the discovery, validation, and prioritization of new value streams to grow the Front Store business. This role will lead a portfolio of high-profile, strategic, and innovative projects aimed at driving growth for CVS merchandising, particularly through identifying assortment and product/portfolio related new opportunities to exploit. The Ld. Director will work closely with category management leadership to develop and execute strategic initiatives, leveraging data-driven insights to improve business performance. This new role centralizes and standardizes strategic project-based work that was previously sub-optimally dispersed across the organization to drive greater efficiencies and outsized growth.

    Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities:

    Responsibilities

    FS Merch Opportunities (50% of time):

    + Drives discovery of new value streams (specifically around: assortment, product, portfolio, vendor-negotiations, etc.) to help grow the Front Store business based on inputs from category management leaders, Business Accleration team partners and external observations; hypotheses

    + Ensures new value streams are sized (analyzing internal and external data sources), validated and prioritized before championing them to business acceleration partners and merchandising leaders to ensure buy in

    + Leads process-design, adoption of, execution (and ultimately, value creation) from new value streams

    + Engages cross functional partners in support of new value streams, overcoming any roadblocks and influences leaders across CVS functions in order to build alignment around vision, design and implementation

    + Drives insights and analytical processes to ensure execution and implementation of new initiatives fit with strategic purpose, and are delivered on time, and on budget

    + Cultivates relationships with category management to ensure opportunities are relevant and practical, and recommendations are executable and rigrous confirmation of financial impact of actions taken

    Strategic Projects & Innovation (20%):

    + Builds and leads a portfolio of high-profile, strategic, and innovative projects aimed at driving growth for CVS

    + Inspires creativity and new capability design through 'white space' opportunity identification and robust business case development

    + Utilizes a 'Test and Learn' mindset to design initiative pilots, deploy them in select stores, and measure and assess results

    + Integrates external data sources with internal data/metrics to solve complex problems and identify growth opportunities

    Strategy Development (15%):

    + Develops and executes a comprehensive short and long-term strategic roadmap to meet the business objectives and the transformative evolution of the merchandising opportunities team

    + Navigates ambiguity and change to achieve goals despite potential obstacles

    + Champions innovation by bringing new ideas to senior leadership and the broader team

    + Partners with sr. leaders to continually innovate the capabilities for the Front Store team as a whole. This includes leadership and participation in strategy development, experiementation design & execution, process improvement, capability development, talent development, etc.

    Talent Development (15%):

    + Develops the capabilities of direct reports to take on progressively higher levels of responsibility

    + Maintains diverse talent pools (internal and external networks) to support a pipeline of talent and succesion plans

    + Promotes a high-performance culture by clearly setting goals and expectations

    + Acts as a coach and mentor for the team, developing and supporting Individual Development Plans (IDPs) for high-potential talent

    + Leverages existing enterprise tools, such as talent profiles and enterprise development programs, to develop talent

    Education:

    Bachelor Degree

    Required Experience:

    + 10+ years’ experience identifying, designing, implementing and executing strategic & innovative projects and initiatives

    + 10+ years’ demonstrable excellence in leading, developing, and managing a high-performing team. Keen passion for growing key talent to help them realize their highest potential in impacting the business

    + 10+ years’ proven track record of influencing others with and without authority

    + 10+ years’ experience seizing opportunities, taking initiative, working independently with, at times, limited oversight; and adapting to shifting priorities

    + 10+ years’ demonstrating a self-motivated, entrepreneurial, and energetic demeanor while functioning in a high demand, performance-driven environment and managing competing priorities, multiple assignments, and delivering results against tight deadlines

    + 10+ years’ experience understanding, breaking down and structuring highly complex situations to deliver impactful solutions in real time

    + 10+ years’ experience deploying strong communication skills and storytelling with the ability to perceive when to optimally deploy: verbal (presentations; interpersonal; concision), visual (PowerPoint), and written (email) methods

    + 10+ years’ experience collaborating effectively across different business functions, different perspectives, and different styles of leadership

    + Expertise leveraging MS Office Suite, including advanced Excel and PowerPoint capabilities; Tableau or other BI/visualization tools

    + Ability to think about the impact of decisions on the broader enterprise

    + Consistently demonstrates strong executive presence and gravitas

    + Creative ‘out-of-the-box’ thinker with a passion for using data to drive business decision making

    + Intense interest in learning, passion to ‘figure things out’, inclination to ask questions, and unwavering intellectual curiosity

    + Demonstrated track record of high performance

    + Humility and receptiveness to feedback. An open and honest communication style, both upwards and with team, that quickly builds trust, rapport, and respect

    + Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience

    + Regular and reliable attendance

    + **Travel-** Ability, and willingness, to travel regularly, 10-25% of time, based on needs of the business

    Preferred Qualifications: _T_

    + Experience working for a Fortune 5 company in merchandising or a similar function for a retail pharmacy company

    + Consulting experience preferred

    + Experience working as a strong merchant, managing a P&L

    + Advanced degree preferred

     

    Pay Range

    The typical pay range for this role is:

    $100,000.00 - $231,540.00

     

    This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
