    Internal Communications Specialist - Temporary

    Position Summary

    The Internal Communications Manager plays an important role in communicating to employees on a variety of organizational topics and ensures that updates are shared in a timely, engaging manner. This role collaborates with Employee Engagement/HR, crisis communications, marketing, social media, web and other SBM functions to develop, coordinate, and share content across multiple communications channels.

    Duties of** **The Internal Communications Manager** **may include the following but are not limited to:

    + Develop internal communications strategy and goals, including communications budget, action plan, timeline and measurement.

    + Create and manage a communications calendar to structure the flow, timing and coordination of communications and increase efficiency of current communication practices – in partnership with Employee Engagement/HR, crisis communications, marketing, social media, media relations, web and other departments and content managers.

    + Assess communication tools and make recommendations for how enterprise-wide information is disseminated, including new technology and integration of communication tools/services across SBM audiences and locations.

    + Manage communications activities and implement communication plans that promote and enhance the internal SBM brand and reputation, align with paid, earned and social campaigns, and build culture internally through the sharing of information, events and stories.

    + Implement and deliver internal communications projects, project manage, and serve as primary contact and producer/coordinator for:

    + Enterprise-wide communications related to strategic priorities/goals, SBM vision and mission, and other important strategic messages across the leadership meeting structure, including Leader Rounding, Daily Briefing Huddles, Town Halls, Internal Events

    + Internal newsletters – discuss story ideas with committee and Senior Director of Communications; lead bi-monthly newsletter meetings; develop production timelines; gather information from internal departments; conduct interviews with Hospital staff, write articles for and publish newsletters.

    + Content for department/unit communication boards and digital signage including, for example, hospital programs, services, strategic priorities and goals, technologies and achievements.

    + Coordination of SBM Intranet content with content owners, content creation and managing the events calendar

    + Coordination of content with social media managers focused on engaging employees and advancing SBM’s vision and mission

    + Implement a consistent voice, tone and personality for leadership and other communications that aligns with SBM and SBU brand pillars/attributes.

    + Ensure that communications strategies are successfully executed across multiple channels; track and measure results through quarterly communication plans to ensure attainment of communications objectives.

    + Oversight of SBM intranet homepage and marketing driven sections (i.e. Coronavirus section). Coordinate with other content owners as necessary.

    + Develop video and photographic content as needed.

    + Partner with Associate Director of Internal Communications on West Campus for projects as needed.

    Required Qualifications:

    + Bachelor's degree in journalism, marketing, communications, or related field

    + Understanding of the development and execution of marketing strategy and knowing how to connect that strategy to the achievement of strategic priorities/goals.

    + Minimum of 7 years of experience as a writer/editor in internal communications or related communications area.

    + Outstanding written and oral communication skills, with the ability to tailor and adjust communications as needed.

    + Well-organized with excellent attention to detail and follow through.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Experience in and/or understanding of the complexity of healthcare/health system

    + Knowledge of AP style.

    + Experience with digital platforms and Content Management Systems.

    + Experience working with graphic design, branding guidelines.

    + Proficiency in MS Office Suite, experience with InDesign or other similar software.

    **Posting Overview** **:** This position will remain posted until filled or for a maximum of 90 days. An initial review of all applicants will occur two weeks from the posting date.     + Stony Brook Medicine is a smoke free environment. Smoking is strictly prohibited anywhere on campus, including parking lots and outdoor areas on the premises.

    + All Hospital positions may be subject to changes in pass days and shifts as necessary.

    + This position may require the wearing of respiratory protection, which may prohibit the wearing of facial hair.

    + This function/position may be designated as “essential.” This means that when the Hospital is faced with an institutional emergency, employees in such positions may be required to remain at their work location or to report to work to protect, recover, and continue operations at Stony Brook Medicine, Stony Brook University Hospital and related facilities.

    Prior to start date, the selected candidate must meet the following requirements:

    + Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services

    * + Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.

    + Successfully complete a 4 panel drug screen

    * + Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screenings.

    + Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).

     

    Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.

    Anticipated Pay Range:

    The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position is - $74909 - $93636 / year.

     

    The above salary range represents SBUH’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. The specific salary offer will be based on the candidate’s validated years of comparable experience. Any efforts to inflate or misrepresent experience are grounds for disqualification from the application process or termination of employment if hired.

    Some positions offer annual supplemental pay such as:

    * Location pay for UUP full-time positions ($3400)
