Position Description
The Finance Specialist -Waste Services performs professional and analytical financial investment-related duties of a specialized nature requiring professional knowledge, skills, and abilities that pertain to the field of finance and administration. The incumbent will perform related duties as required.
Waste Services is responsible for weekly curbside waste and every other week curbside recycling collection for over 151,000 customers in the urban services district as well as collection of over 200 public litter baskets in the downtown Nashville corridor. The division also operates four convenience centers where residents of Davidson County can bring waste, recycling, bulk items, food waste, household hazardous waste, and other items for recycling or disposal and eight recycling drop-off locations available to residents who do not qualify for curbside recycling collection.
Waste Services currently employs staff members working in collection, administration, customer service, education, landfill engineering, development review, and outreach.
Typical Duties
+ Serves as subject matter expert on issues related to finance and administration.
+ Coordinates and performs finance-related functions with agencies inside and outside Metropolitan Government.
+ Conducts presentations, seminars, or workshops; May prepare financial graphs and reports.
+ Provides authoritative information and analysis related to finance and administration for employees, management, and/or organizations outside Metropolitan Government; Collects and analyzes information pertaining to finance and administration.
+ Interprets rules, policies and procedures for staff members.
+ Assists with writing, management, and execution of policies and procedures needed for finance and administration.
+ May advise Metro Treasurer, Accounting Chief, and Finance Director, regarding the status of Metro's cash flow management.
+ May assist with management and execution of policies for handling and depositing all revenue receipts.
+ May supervise employees; Attends and/or chairs meetings and workshops as needed; May direct a specialty area within finance and administration.
+ May perform supervisory duties such as assigning and reviewing work, evaluating employee performance, approve leave requests and training employees.
+ Performs professional duties related to specialty area of finance and administration.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree and Two (2) Years experience in Finance, Accounting, or related area.

Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.
Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
+ Experience working with budget, purchasing, and payroll systems in governmental operations
+ Proficiency in financial software and/or applications
