Position Description
The Waste Services Council Liaison provides and performs policy and legislative outreach and communications on behalf of the Waste Services Department.
Waste Services is responsible for weekly curbside waste and every other week curbside recycling collection for over 151,000 customers in the urban services district as well as collection of over 200 public litter baskets in the downtown Nashville corridor. The division also operates four convenience centers where residents of Davidson County can bring waste, recycling, bulk items, food waste, household hazardous waste, and other items for recycling or disposal and eight recycling drop-off locations available to residents who do not qualify for curbside recycling collection.
Waste Services currently employs staff members working in collection, administration, customer service, education, landfill engineering, development review, and outreach.
Typical Duties
•Serves as a professional liaison between the general public, council, and the City Mayor’s Office; assists residents navigating through city services and works to build better working relationships.
•Assists, supports, and coordinates Waste Services’ agenda, schedule, and other logistics with council members; works to foster and implement new ideas, policies, or initiatives.
•Develops and analyzes various policies and legislation; prepares summaries, conducts research, and identifies supporting data and metrics.
• Monitors performance metrics, tracks operational efficiencies and manages reporting based on departmental goals & objectives
•Develops policies & procedures
•Attends community meetings and other functions to make presentations on behalf of Waste Services; reviews, evaluates, and interprets all written correspondence on behalf of Waste Services.
•Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Political Science, Public Administration, or related plus five (5) years of governmental or administrative experience.
