Summary
Reporting to the Development Controller, the Accounting Manager will be responsible for complex accounting and reporting duties as well as oversight and accountability of day‐to‐day project construction accounting. This includes research of new accounting requirements, review of peer practices, and consultation with third parties. This position works closely with the BRIDGE Development team, including Senior Leaders, JV partners, and other third parties, and requires a working knowledge of accrual accounting from a GAAP perspective and LIHTC accounting rules. This position requires a highly detail‐oriented individual with good written and oral presentation capacities. The role is in an active office environment and must help build a strong accounting team.
Responsibilities
• Manage monthly close process with other departments including completion of close calendar and posting journal entries
• Work closely with developers on project key milestones, such as construction close
• Supervise accountants on cost certifications
• Participate in designing and implementing new policies and procedures
• Make suggestions to improve our current processes and efficiencies
• Oversee the processing and recording of cash receipts and disbursements
• Oversee daily development cash management and corresponding payment of invoices and affiliate advances
• Understand and manage Development Working Capital/BRIDGE capital at the portfolio level
• Work directly with auditors during interim internal control procedures and yearly annual audits
• Train, mentor, develop and supervise staff, including assigning and reviewing work, planning, setting and maintaining GAAP, coordinating staff activities, allocating personnel, and addressing employee conflicts
• Take an active role in spotting issues prior to a project milestone (through the use of data), be able to bring that proactively to management and/or the project team, and manage the issue to closure
• Responsible for the review and compliance of project documents such as loan agreements, developer services agreements, and guarantees
• Work closely with the Development Controller and CFO to understand the corporate activities and anticipate future changes
• Develop active partnership with Property Management Accounting in the transition of projects moving from construction project accounting to BRIDGE’s operating portfolio
• Prepare reports for investors, joint venture partners, Senior Leadership and the Board of Directors
• Perform various projects and analysis as required
Qualifications
• Prior experience in real estate development and multiple legal entity environments
• Broad‐based knowledge of advanced financial accounting and external reporting concepts and processes
• Excellent communication (verbal and written), presentation, analytical, problem, organizational and consultative skills
• Prior Yardi experience
• Computer skills (MS Office and accounting systems)
• Demonstrated ability to work independently under time sensitive deadlines
• Working knowledge of GAAP, consolidation and internal controls
• B.S. Degree in Accounting or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications
• CPA or Master’s degree in accounting
