Assists Pharmacist in the preparation and distribution of medications including parenteral admixtures. Follows established policies and procedures and performs all functions required of a Pharmacy Technician I.
Job Description:
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Repackages bulk medications in accordance with department needs, as required, and records all necessary information in the Packaging Log.
2. Accurately prepares medications to be restocked in the Pyxis Medstation.
3. Maintains records for controlled substances and is responsible for exercising maximum security precautions.
4. Assists in the preparation and delivery of DEA controlled substances to Nursing Units, if required.
5. Assists with the monthly inspection of nursing units and specialty areas.
6. Uses computer to generate daily reports, fill lists, labels.
7. Answers telephone when necessary and refers technical questions directly to a pharmacist.
8. Covers other technician's scheduled time as requested.
9. Interacts with physicians, nurses, and other hospital personnel in a courteous manner.
10. Assists Pharmacist with Pyxis inventory control and expiration date inspections.
11. Maintains work area in a clean and neat condition.
12. Mixes and prepares parenteral solutions when assigned to Sterile Compounding Room: Responsible for preparing compounded sterile products utilizing strict aseptic technique per USP 797 guidelines
and Responsible for cleaning the primary engineering control and surrounding area within the sterile compounding room per USP 797 guidelines.
13. Expedites IV orders in a timely fashion.
14. Updates Refrigerator/QA monitoring logs daily.
15. Restocks admixture room as needed.
16. Accurately delivers IV solutions to nursing units.
17. Performs other related duties as required.
Job Requirements:
1. 0 - 1 years of experience.
2. HS Graduate or Equivalent. Associate's degree preferred.
3. Current Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Intern License.
4. Pharmacy Technician Certification.
5. Basic familiarity with computers. Ability to navigate at a basic level within web-based applications.
