    The Land Protection Branch is seeking to fill the Assistant Branch Chief position. The Land Protection Branch manages the treatment, processing, storage, disposal, and cleanup of solid and hazardous wastes through programs for landfills, industry, and contaminated sites. The branch oversees recovered materials, underground storage tanks, scrap tire cleanups, lead-based paint and asbestos, and surface mining. Specific job responsibilities for the Assistant Branch Chief position include, but are not limited to:

     

    Assist the Land Protection Branch Chief in carrying out their duties.

     

    Ensure that the programs effectively support the policies, mission, and goals of the Branch and the Georgia Environmental Protection Division.

     

    Provide management oversight for some programs/functions within the Land Protection Branch.

     

    Strategic planning.

     

    Evaluate internal business processes and recommend and implement changes to improve organizational effectiveness.

     

    Develop and implement talent management strategies.

     

    Develop standard operating procedures and processes within the Land Protection Branch.

     

    Facilitate communication between programs within the Land Protection Branch.

     

    Provide information to and coordinate with external stakeholders travel to the metro region.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Experience in implementing environmental regulations

     

    Experience in developing policies and procedures

     

    Experience in supervising professional staff

     

    Strong written and verbal communication skills

     

    Demonstrated ability to identify and implement needed organizational or functional improvements

     

    Demonstrated ability to produce high quality work products and meet required deadlines

     

    Demonstrated ability to solve complex organizational and technical problems

    Bachelor's degree in environmental sciences, biology, chemistry, geology, engineering (agricultural, chemical, civil, environmental, mechanical or sanitary) or related field from an accredited college or university and five (5) years of professional experience in environmental enforcement, environmental health, environmental monitoring, environmental protection or environmental research, which includes two (2) years in a managerial role; or three (3) years of experience required at the lower level Mgr 2, Environmental Protection (RCM011) or position equivalent. Note: An equivalent combination of knowledge, education, job or intern experience, training, or certifications that provides the necessary knowledge and skills to successfully perform the job at the level listed may be substituted year-over-year.
