    Job Description:

    The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

     

    The Senior Product Steward will assume responsibilities for conducting assigned, approved, or self-initiated technical tasks leading to compliance with safety, health, and environmental regulations and corporate policies and product responsibility assurance of existing and new materials, products and technologies of major importance to the division/staff organization. Usually reports to a product responsibility liaison, product responsibility champion, laboratory supervisor or manager, or senior technical individual.

    Key Responsibilities:

    1. Technical Contributions

    + Performs and guides technical activities resulting from self-initiated or assigned technical programs leading to the regulatory compliance, assessment of safety to human health and the environment, liability avoidance, and product stewardship issues concerning existing or new chemicals, materials, products, hardgoods (where appropriate), and/or technologies or processes for the business(es) and/or country/region served.

    + Develops subject matter expertise in regulations applicable to products and markets served. Is often sought out by the business to provide advice and insights.

    + Enables timely introduction of new/modified products or compliance processes.

    + Advances knowledge of current local, state/provincial, federal and international (as applicable) regulations for environment, health, and safety, appropriate to the business(es) and/or country/region served.

    + Advances knowledge and understanding of articles/chemicals/hardgoods (as applicable), and compliance processes, appropriate to business(es) and or country/region served.

    + Continues to develop working knowledge and understanding of, and may have some involvement with, external activities/regulatory initiatives and legal actions related to the business(es) and/or country/region served.

    + Demonstrates and advances awareness of emerging regulations and/or pending changes to industry standards or practices impacting product compliance. May engage in advocacy processes.

    + Efficiently utilizes internal and external databases/systems to facilitate regulatory compliance of assigned product portfolio(s).

    + Utilizes knowledge of technical, product, and market information and understanding of project scope, expectations, and requirements to contribute to the development of project strategy/planning

    2. Interactions

    + Develops a broad knowledge and understanding of the organization and business(es) and/or country/region served, such as applicable laboratories, manufacturing, engineering, sales and marketing functions and interfaces. 3. Communication

    + Establishes and cultivates a network of support (laboratory, manufacturing, engineering, sales, marketing, legal, management, corporate product stewardship, environmental and toxicology department staff, limited outside agency, etc.) to facilitate completion of assignments.

    + Participates on and/or leads teams.

    + Multinational or global interactions may be required.

    + Assists customers by providing/coordinating responses to their inquiries about product stewardship matters.

    + Develops compliance knowledge and skills in product stewardship duties through training courses, guidance from senior product stewardship support, and active participation in relevant internal and external activities (e.g. Regulatory Updates, Tech Forum Events, Industry Association engagements, etc.).

    4. Communication

    + Develops, prepares, and maintains documentation for Technical Activities (as described in section 1).

    + Communicates results of assigned and self-initiated technical tasks to teams supported, respective business group(s) and/or country/region served, and/or appropriate technical community.

    + Communicates to external parties/customers as appropriate.

    + Demonstrates careful communication during verbal and written interactions with internal and external parties

    5. Leadership

    + Assumes leadership role for the execution of required technical compliance activities.

    + Exhibits sound professional judgment in evaluating results and suggests future direction based on these results.

    + Occasional responsibility for leading or supervising others.

    + May assist in the development of other technical employees, contract workers, tech aides, etc.

    + May conduct training of personnel and/or business teams.

    + Demonstrates organizational and planning skills

    6. Corporate Initiatives

    + Applies working knowledge of key corporate policies, standards, guidelines, initiatives and appropriate tools to the job function.

     

    Your Skills and Expertise

    To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

    + Bachelor’s degree in Science / Engineering

    + 4 to 5 years of relevant industry experience in EHS / Product compliance / Regulatory affairs
