    Job Title: Diesel Technician

    Job Description

    This position involves performing mechanical troubleshooting and repairs on trucks. The technician will inspect trucks, running through checklists provided by drivers to identify issues encountered on the road. The focus will be on mechanical failures, with some electrical troubleshooting and repairs handled by more experienced technicians. The role requires a working knowledge and moderate skill proficiency in various vehicle components and systems to perform preventative and repair maintenance, both on-site and on the road.

    Responsibilities

    + Perform chassis component repair and maintenance.

    + Maintain and repair refuse bodies, including control, hydraulic, and electrical systems, as well as air and hydraulic braking systems.

    + Conduct engine repair and maintenance.

    + Service suspension, drive train, and steering systems.

    + Maintain heating and air conditioning systems.

    + Perform line maintenance welding and fabrication.

    + Provide safe road service when necessary to ensure equipment is returned to operation safely and efficiently.

    + Identify the source of malfunctions using a variety of electronic tools.

    Essential Skills

    + 1-5 years of diesel mechanic/repair experience (6 months if directly experienced with diesel engines).

    + Clean driving record.

    + Experience with heavy-duty class 7-8 trucks or 1-5 light-duty trucks.

    + Experience in engine repair or air brake repair.

    + Valid driver's license.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + ASE Certifications (T1-T8).

    + Master Diesel certification.

    + Experience with suspension systems.

    + Prior experience in garbage truck repair.

    + Commercial Driver's License (CDL).

    Work Environment

     

    This position is for the Stevensville location on the 2nd shift. We are looking for both A and B technicians. The pay for B technicians is $26-$30 per hour, and for A technicians, it is $30-$36 per hour, depending on experience and the interview. The 2nd shift runs from 2 pm to 12 am with a 30-minute unpaid lunch and several breaks throughout the day. There is no 3rd shift. Occasionally, the 2nd shift may start at 3 pm and go until 1 am. The typical workweek is 50-55 hours, consisting of five 10-hour days.

    This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Stevensville, Michigan.

     

    Pay and Benefits

     

    The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $36.00/hr.
