Lab Technician

Job Description

As a Lab Technician, you will engage in various daily lab tasks, focusing on paint testing and development. You will be responsible for preparing panels, checking dry times, conducting adhesion tests, documenting results, and collaborating with the lab facility on test outcomes. Your time will be divided with 50% in the lab, 30% on documentation, and 20% on communication with the outside lab and team.

Responsibilities

+ Perform routine and non-routine laboratory testing and analyses with a specific emphasis on paint testing.

+ Prepare and apply paint to various surfaces for testing and real-world applications.

+ Test and record paint performance and coordinate testing with local labs.

+ Prepare, conduct, and report on experiments related to new consumer product development.

+ Maintain laboratory equipment and instruments in proper working order.

+ Document work performed in lab books and daily logs.

+ Maintain a clean and ordered work area.

+ Practice safe work habits and comply with all Environmental, Health, and Safety policies and regulations.

+ Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills

+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, and PowerPoint.

+ Experience in laboratory settings, with a preference for adhesion testing.

+ Ability to report data accurately and efficiently.

+ Familiarity with paint testing, including pencil hardness testing, posi testing, and cross-hatch testing.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ High School diploma required; Chemistry degree preferred.

+ Previous laboratory experience is essential, whether from college or lab work.

+ Basic laboratory skills (e.g., pipetting, weighing, dilutions).

+ Ability to work on self-directed and team-oriented projects.

+ Good quantitative and math skills.

+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

+ Strong attention to detail.

Work Environment

The position is scheduled from 8 AM to 4 PM, Monday to Friday. You will work in a designated lab area equipped with a computer and mixing equipment. The lab features two large rooms and an outdoor area for spraying panels. You will work around paint and solvents, so a respirator is available if requested. The team includes two other lab technicians and a VP of R&D, fostering a collaborative environment.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
