The purpose of this position is to develop, evaluate, improve, and document the manufacturing process for complex composite aero structures. This includes management and definition of manufacturing plans and methods, including tooling, equipment, automation, composite manufacturing processes, and assembly to align production with customer requirements. The Senior Manufacturing Engineer may be hands-on, interacting with shop floor personnel and manufacturing groups, but primarily will mentor the engineering team to ensure new product introductions are on schedule and lean plans are created and implemented.
Responsibilities
+ Develop and implement process control techniques and procedures in manufacturing environments.
+ Develop manufacturing build plans.
+ Analyze manufacturing process flows continually to enhance quality, reduce costs, and increase output.
+ Collaborate with suppliers, Tooling Engineers, and NPD and Manufacturing Engineers regarding product tooling and design to ensure effective production methods.
+ Work closely with the manufacturing department to develop, coordinate, and implement manufacturing build plans and create technical training for employees.
+ Design and develop manufacturing processes for enhancements, product changes, and new products, including related fixtures and tooling that are consistent with zero defect levels and low product costs.
+ Create and maintain accurate documentation of tool drawings, design concepts, shop orders, and concepts in accordance with manufacturing engineering standards.
+ Provide critical engineering support and review in production environments to troubleshoot and resolve technical problems and guide engineering teammates.
+ Support and review company policies and procedures, goals and objectives, and manufacturing practices.
+ Perform production readiness evaluations and producibility assessments of all engineering changes.
+ Lead and initiate technology and process optimizations to drive continuous improvement in quality and safety and reduce production costs and flows.
+ Perform and review engineering activities including project management, supplier technical coordination, design development, and engineering investigation.
+ Lead and participate in root-cause and corrective action activities internally and with suppliers to ensure manufacturing processes and manufactured parts meet engineering and regulatory requirements.
+ Leverage data analytics to make informed decisions and build continuous improvement solutions.
+ Serve as a Manufacturing Engineering point of contact for other functions.
+ May involve working directly with government customers, proposal estimating, manufacturing readiness assessments, creating manufacturing plans, make-or-buy analysis, presenting at various design and manufacturing reviews, and traveling to various manufacturing facilities including suppliers and other sites.
Essential Skills
+ Solid understanding and experience with SolidWorks, CATIA, and Microsoft Office.
+ Experience in composites engineering.
+ Aerospace and defense experience.
+ Manufacturing engineering and process improvement expertise.
+ Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles.
+ Experience with tooling and assembly processes.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Manufacturing Engineering from an accredited university. Master’s degree preferred.
+ Minimum of 10 years of proven working experience on commercial/defense aircraft or rotorcraft composite materials, parts, or processes with OEM and/or suppliers.
+ Lean Manufacturing/Six Sigma certification preferred.
+ Aviation and/or defense industry experience preferred.
+ Experience with technical proposals, including labor and material estimates, manufacturing planning, and IMS creation.
+ Experience presenting to executive audiences.
+ Well-versed in AS9100, AS9145, and NADCAP standards.
+ Knowledge of MRP production control systems (Sage and Global Shop preferred).
+ Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
+ Familiarity with Boeing commercial and defense process and material specifications preferred.
+ Must be a United States citizen.
Work Environment
Engineers will work on-site on a hybrid basis, having offices within the building to provide a quiet workspace while maintaining direct and immediate access to the floor. The work includes interaction with team members to streamline workflow. The role involves working on exciting projects supporting all segments of the aerospace market with a focus on the defense sector's fixed wing and rotary aircraft, as well as space and uncrewed systems.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $57.00/hr.
