Lab ManagerPosition Overview
We are seeking a highly organized and experienced Lab Manager to lead our Construction and Geotechnical Materials Testing Laboratory. This role is responsible for overseeing daily lab operations, ensuring testing is conducted safely, accurately, and in compliance with company quality standards and project requirements. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in materials testing (soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt), team leadership, and quality management.
Key Responsibilities
+ Manage and coordinate all laboratory activities, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and quality standards.
+ Develop and implement lab-specific operating procedures to maintain efficiency and consistency.
+ Collaborate with office management to scope, price, and staff laboratory testing services.
+ Supervise and train laboratory personnel, ensuring they are equipped and prepared to perform their duties safely and effectively.
+ Monitor lab operations to ensure timely and accurate execution of testing services.
+ Ensure adherence to the company’s Quality Management System (QMS) and project-specific requirements.
+ Evaluate staff performance and support professional development.
+ Oversee equipment calibration, maintenance, and cleanliness of the lab environment.
+ Support business development efforts and assist in preparing annual departmental business plans.
+ Maintain administrative systems and ensure timely reporting and documentation.
+ Enforce company policies related to timesheets, expenses, and procurement.
+ Perform laboratory testing as needed based on workload and staffing.
+ Promote a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
Required:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology or a related field and 5+ years of experience in construction/geotechnical materials testing
+ OR
+ 9+ years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
+ Certifications from recognized authorities (e.g., ACI, NICET, DOT) in areas such as concrete, aggregates, soils, or paving materials.
+ Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Preferred Skills & Certifications
+ ACI, ICC, NICET certifications
+ Experience with construction materials testing and quality assurance
+ Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
+ Familiarity with risk management and safety protocols

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $37.00 - $46.00/hr.
