    Job Title: Container Engineer

    Job Description

    The Container Engineer role is pivotal in developing specialized containers to ship components and sub-assemblies into assembly plants for vehicle programs. This position requires a deep understanding of supply chain and manufacturing constraints to devise robust packaging solutions. The primary goal is to protect part quality while optimizing container density and logistics equipment to minimize enterprise costs. This role involves critical engineering skills such as manufacturing and assembly processes, alongside successful project management, aimed at identifying and eliminating waste within logistics, manufacturing, and material handling processes.

    Responsibilities

    + Develop packaging solutions that cater to multiple stakeholders in the supply base, logistics, and manufacturing.

    + Execute project management on various container designs and commodities to support future program milestones and deliveries.

    + Develop validation protocols including loading, transportation, and unloading to ensure robust designs.

    + Create solutions with high first-time quality, ensuring zero rework.

    + Prioritize workload to support multiple programs and studies simultaneously, working independently to meet goals and KPI's.

    + Serve as the technical expert for packaging at a commodity level to support future strategies from a container and logistics perspective.

    + Lead discussions and ask questions to identify critical constraints that the container must support while controlling costs within multifunctional groups.

    + Communicate effectively across organizations, utilizing computer skills.

    + Travel locally to SE Michigan, with some scheduled overnight trips to plants within North America to support program launches.

    Essential Skills

    + Bachelor’s degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering.

    + Over two years of work experience in a manufacturing environment.

    + Education or experience in packaging designs utilizing 3D modeling and design software.

    + Working knowledge of material handling and manufacturing processes.

    + Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

    + High level of analytical ability to tackle unusual and difficult problems.

    + Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with others.

    + Proficiency in personal computer skills.

    + Hands-on problem-solving ability.

    + Self-motivation and strong initiative.

    + Project management and organizational skills.

    + Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + Understanding of Lean Manufacturing Strategies and Quality Systems.

    + Good business acumen, organizational and strategic agility.

    + Experience in developing cost/benefit data analysis (Business Cases).

    + Red X/problem solving proficiency.

    + Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Packaging, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering.

    + Knowledge of vibration data acquisition and testing Unigraphics NX, TcAE, Autoweb.

    + ISTA or ASTM validation and testing protocols.

    Work Environment

    This is a hybrid position, requiring three days in the office and two days remote work. The role is based at the Engineering Center, which houses approximately 4,000 employees. The team comprises around 60 engineers, divided into 2-3 groups per part and vehicle line. This is a first-shift opportunity with a business casual dress code. Travel is expected to be 10% or less for this role.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $46.00/hr.
