    Job Title: Pipefitter

    Job Description

    As a Pipefitter, you will be responsible for installing and maintaining ships' piping systems, including steam, heat and power, hot water, hydraulic, air pressure, and oil systems. Your role will involve planning the layout of pipe sections, cutting and boring holes in bulkheads and decks for the installation of pipes, cutting and threading pipe and pipe fittings, and bending pipes to specified shapes. You will also connect pipes to fixtures such as heat exchangers, laundry and galley equipment, pumps, tanks, and other ship equipment, as well as repair, pack, and adjust valves. Testing installed systems for leaks and ensuring they meet specifications is also part of your responsibilities. You must ensure that Work Authorization Forms (WAFs) are properly completed before starting tasks and adhere to safety standards observed by the shipyard.

    Responsibilities

    + Install and maintain ships' piping systems, including steam, heat and power, hot water, hydraulic, air pressure, and oil.

    + Plan layout of pipe sections and cut and bore holes in bulkheads and decks for installation.

    + Cut and thread pipe and pipe fittings, including valves, traps, and thermostats.

    + Bend pipe to specified shapes and bolt or weld brackets to support pipe systems.

    + Connect pipes to fixtures such as heat exchangers, laundry and galley equipment, pumps, tanks, and other ship equipment.

    + Repair, pack, and adjust valves.

    + Test installed systems for leaks and ensure systems meet specifications.

    + Ensure Work Authorization Forms are properly completed prior to starting tasks.

    + Follow safety standards and hot work protocols.

    Essential Skills

    + Pipefitting experience, 1st class with 5+ years of recent experience or 2nd class with 3+ years.

    + Proficiency in cutting, threading, and bending pipes.

    + Ability to read blueprints.

    + Experience with vessel/shipboard environments.

    + Prior experience following tag-out procedures.

    + Capability to butt weld, install pipe hangers, fit flanged joints, and thread pipe.

     

    Pay and Benefits

     

    The pay range for this position is $15.00 - $25.00/hr.
