    Job Title: Roller Operator

    Job Description

    The Roller Operator is responsible for operating heavy equipment, specifically rollers, to compact and smooth various surfaces, primarily asphalt, during road construction and maintenance projects. This role ensures the asphalt is evenly distributed and meets required specifications, contributing to the quality and durability of the finished surface.

    Responsibilities

    + Operate breakdown rollers and finish rollers to distribute, break down, compress, and give a finished surface to asphalt.

    + Maintain equipment through daily inspections and minor repairs, reporting major issues to supervisors.

    + Understand asphalt paving techniques, including mix design, material thickness, temperature zones, and density to ensure proper compaction.

    + Coordinate with crew members, following hand or audio signals to synchronize machine actions.

    + Adhere to safety protocols, ensuring the safety of crew members and the public, and identifying potential hazards.

    + Document tasks, report issues, and participate in toolbox meetings.

    + Assist with other tasks like setting up signs or performing minor maintenance.

    + Determine speed and direction of the machine based on material compressibility.

    + Adjust frequency and amplitude based on mix design and other factors.

    + Optimize water systems to avoid material pickup.

    Essential Skills

    + Ability to operate heavy equipment.

    + Knowledge of asphalt paving techniques and specifications.

    + Understanding of safety procedures and regulations.

    + Teamwork and communication skills.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + Experience with equipment operation such as excavator, dozer, backhoe, skid steer, and loader.

    + Possession of personal Construction PPE's (hard hat, high visibility vest, steel toe or work boots) and specific tools.

    Work Environment

     

    The Roller Operator will work on construction sites across various locations throughout Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo County. The work is primarily outdoors and labor-intensive, with shifts typically running from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday, with the possibility of additional hours until tasks are completed. Weekend work may be available on a voluntary basis.

    This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Nipomo, California.

     

    Pay and Benefits

     

    The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $40.00/hr.
