Job Title: Outside Machinist Diesel Mechanic
Job Description
As an Outside Machinist Diesel Mechanic, you will play a crucial role in conducting repairs, rebuilds, and overhauls of diesel engines and other types of engines. Your expertise will be pivotal in ensuring the optimal performance of large mechanical systems and heavy equipment.
Responsibilities
+ Conduct diesel engine repairs, rebuilds, and overhauls, as well as work on other types of engines.
+ Assist in the teardown, repair, replacement, and installation of reduction gears.
+ Stage equipment and materials, bolt up equipment, and install machinery for large mechanical systems.
+ Assist in replacing the Stern Gate and repairing the Steering Ram.
+ Conduct generator repairs, rebuilds, and overhauls.
+ Repair deck equipment and deck machinery.
+ Analyze jobs from start to finish, ensuring proper and safe work methods are used.
+ Read and interpret work specifications, blueprints, technical manuals, and design sketches to ensure proper dimensions and tolerance levels.
+ Assemble, repair, and fabricate metal parts using mechanical equipment such as hand tools, calipers, micrometers, lathes, boring mills, planers, shapers, slotters, and milling machines.
+ Assemble parts into sub-units or complete units.
+ Install ship machinery, including propelling machinery, auxiliary motors, pumps, ventilating equipment, and steering gears.
+ Test and inspect installed machinery and equipment during dock and sea trials.
+ Assist, guide, and demonstrate good marine practices.
+ Identify and troubleshoot mechanical problems and report findings to the supervisor.
Essential Skills
+ Proficiency as a 1st or 2nd class machinist, including experience as an Outside Machinist or Machinist Mate.
+ Experience with pumps, valves, and diesel repair.
+ Ability to carry out written or oral instructions effectively.
+ Skillful in operating precision tools, drill presses, and grinders.
+ Competence in interpreting blueprints and design sketches.
+ Capability to work effectively with others.
+ Must be a steady and reliable worker.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ High school diploma or equivalent.
+ Minimum of three years of Outside Machinist experience, including diesel experience.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $25.00/hr.
