    Description

    Responsible for the operation, maintenance and calibration of user charge flow metering collection system instrumentation, and signal communications, as well as asset inspections and satellite monitoring station sampling.

    Minimum Requirements

    Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Must possess knowledge of theoretical and practical applications of flow metering principles and practices, as well as computerized control systems, and comprehensive knowledge of PVSC’s collections systems and emergency plans. Must be familiar with pipe and manhole assessment protocols. Must be able to clean, calibrate, and repair electronic, pneumatic, and hydraulic instrumentation. Must possess knowledge of the standard tools, materials and equipment, as well as the occupational and safety hazards and precautions, involved in performing all work. Must have the ability to read and comprehend engineering and construction drawings, electronic and electrical schematics, and pneumatic and hydraulic flow diagrams. Must be capable of working with personnel to effectively diagnose equipment or system failures. Must be available for emergencies and job assignments on a 24-hour basis.

     

    Education: High School Diploma, Vocational School Diploma, or Equivalency Certificate required plus, 2 years of formal training in hydraulics, electrical/electronics, computer, pneumatics, PLC’s and SCADA, or related fields. Satisfactory completion of the Introduction to Wastewater Treatment course and the Advanced Collection Systems course is required.

     

    Experience and License Requirements: Minimum of three (3) years of work experience in collection system monitoring and/or instrumentation work. A NJDOT Traffic Control Coordinator certificate and a C1 Collection System license is preferred.

     

    Physical Demands: To perform the essential functions of this position the employee must be able to: sit, stand, walk, stoop, climb, kneel, lift up to 50 lbs., carry, reach, push, pull, use a keyboard, use tools, manual dexterity, visual acuity, hearing and speaking. Must qualify for and possess the ability to perform entry into confined spaces while wearing proper Personal Protective Equipment (“PPE”) such as, but not limited to, canister and dust masks as well as Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (“SCBA”). Must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of the arms, legs and whole body such as climbing (including ladders), lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling heavy objects.

     

    Working Conditions: Workers are employed in conditions associated with a wastewater treatment plant and sewer collection system and will be required to work indoors and outdoors.
