As a Performance Excellence Specialist at Goodwill, you will play a vital role in making our work systems more efficient, effective, and aligned with our strategic goals. Your Typical Day:
+ Lead on-the-ground efforts to enhance processes, from resetting workspaces to conducting Gemba walks and applying Baldrige principles.
+ Collaborate with frontline teams and leadership to plan, implement, and sustain performance improvement initiatives.
+ Conduct time studies, process observations, value-stream mapping, and pilots to identify and address inefficiencies.
+ Facilitate workgroups to support both immediate and long-term improvement projects.
+ Develop and monitor key performance metrics to measure success.
+ Assist in root cause analysis to close process gaps and streamline workflows.
+ Provide hands-on support during improvement activities, including implementation and follow-up.
+ Actively participate in Performance Excellence Committee meetings
+ Engage in professional development to stay current on best practices.
+ Work in various environments, including offices, retail stores, donation centers, warehouses, and manufacturing spaces
+ Travel frequently to different Goodwill locations to support improvement efforts.
+ Collaborate with frontline staff, managers, and executives in dynamic and fast-paced settings.
+ Occasionally work outside of standard business hours for projects, training, or urgent initiatives.
What You’ll Need:
+ Bachelor’s degree in business, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, or related field, or equivalent experience in process improvement or operations.
+ Certification or training in Lean Six Sigma, Baldrige Framework, or similar methodologies (preferred).
+ At least 2 years of experience in process improvement, operational efficiency, or project management, preferably in retail, logistics, manufacturing, or nonprofit environments.
+ Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret data for improvement opportunities.
+ Experience with time studies, workflow assessments, and process mapping.
+ Ability to lead change initiatives and collaborate with diverse teams.
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and data visualization tools.
+ Strong written and verbal communication skills.
+ Valid driver’s license, insurance, and reliable transportation.
+ Ability to stand, walk, and move frequently during site visits.
+ Occasionally lift and carry materials (up to 25-50 lbs) when resetting workspaces or optimizing workflows.
+ Ability to bend, crouch, or reach during production area reviews or workspace organization.
+ Prolonged periods of sitting and computer work for data analysis and reporting.
+ Use tools such as stopwatches and floor tape to support process improvements.
