    General Function

    The Instructor is a member of the ranked faculty whose duties require effectiveness in teaching, a commitment to staying current with their discipline and appropriate pedagogies, and a willingness to serve the academic unit, college and/or University. The Instructor’s teaching responsibilities are assigned by the academic department head and may include serving as an academic advisor. Effective January 1 2007, the Instructor rank is a tenure-track appointment only for faculty appointed by the two-year open admissions campus at West Plains and the Greenwood Laboratory School.

     

    Description of Primary Duties

     

    Instructor: Essential Functions

     

    + Instructs students improving their success in academic, interpersonal and daily living skills through a defined course of language study.

    + Monitors students in a variety of educational environments providing a safe and positive learning environment.

    + Manages student behavior providing a safe and optimal learning environment.

    + Assesses student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals providing feedback to students, parents and administration.

    + Collaborates with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents and a variety of community resources improving the overall quality of student outcomes, achieving established classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan.

    + Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of communicating expectations; student’s achievements; developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.

    + Administers developmental testing programs, subject specific assessments, etc. for the purpose of assessing student competency levels and/or developing individual learning plans.

    + Counsels students improving performance, health status, problem solving techniques and a variety of personal issues.

    + Demonstrates methods required to perform classroom and/or subject specific assignments providing an effective program that address individual student requirements.

    + Directs student teachers, paraprofessionals, volunteers and/or student workers per Missouri State University policies and provides an effective classroom program and addressing the needs of individual students.

    + Facilitates student learning achieving success in academic, interpersonal and daily living skills through defined lesson plans.

    + Maintains a variety of manual and electronic documents files and records providing up-to-date information and/or historical reference in accordance with established administrative guidelines and legal requirements.

    + Participates in a variety of meetings and workshops conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.

    + Prepares a variety of materials documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements.

    + Reports health and safety issues to assigned administrator and appropriate agencies maintaining students’ personal safety, a positive learning environment and complying with regulatory requirements and established guidelines.

    + Responds to emergency situations resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.

    + Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources resolving issues, providing information and/or direction.

    + Performs other related duties as required/assigned.

     

    Coach: Essential Functions

     

    + Analyzes opposition’s strategies for game/event prior to and/or during athletic events as appropriate for the purpose of assessing the opposition’s strengths and weaknesses for developing game plan/approach.

    + Assesses student athletes for the purpose of providing feedback to students on their individual performance and/or determining team.

    + Attends a variety of meetings, workshops, conferences, for the purpose of receiving and conveying information related to their role.

    + Assists with a variety of supporting activities (e.g. parent orientations, recognition events, banquets, ) for the purpose of providing information regarding the program and/or recognizing participants’ accomplishments.

    + Develops team and individual practice regimes for student athletes (e.g. strength, speed, agility, nutritional, injury prevention, ) for the purpose of enhancing and improving their performance.

    + Develops game strategies/plans for the purpose of preparing the team and individual student athletics for the competition.

    + Evaluates facility and playing field for potential hazards, inadequate equipment, for the purpose of implementing and/or assisting in making modifications or recommendations that would reduce the risk of injury.

    + Identifies program needs for the purpose of providing recommendations of expenditures for activities, equipment, supplies, that will enhance the assigned athletic program.

    + Identifies appropriate uses of program funding (e.g. school budget, Greenwood booster club) for the purpose of addressing program needs in compliance with state and university policies and practices.

    + Implements practice schedules and related events (e.g. usage of facilities and equipment, staff assignments, ) for the purpose of ensuring efficient program operation.

    + Instructs student athletes for the purpose of promoting individual growth in athletic skills and teamwork.

    + Maintains a variety of records (e.g. game/student athlete statistics, physicals, insurance, signed permission forms, emergency information, schedules, equipment inventories, ) for the purpose of complying with district, athletic conference, state requirements and/or report scores and strategies.

    + Monitors student athletes’ academic eligibility for the purpose of both complying with MSHSAA requirements as well as providing appropriate intervention (e.g. counseling, tutoring, ) to students identified as needing assistance to maintain their athletic eligibility.

    + Oversees student managers, volunteers, for the purpose of providing direction and monitoring activities.

    + Serves as the liaison for their athletic program at a variety of functions (e.g. conference ( GOC ) meetings, tournaments, clinics) for the purpose of representing Greenwood at those functions.

    + Supervises student-athletes during all areas of participation (e.g. competition, travel, meetings, practices, ) for the purpose of ensuring activities are conducted in an environment with minimal risk of injury to the participants.

    + Supports students during the college recruiting process for the purpose of assisting them in achieving their college competition aspirations.

    + Performs other related duties as required/assigned.

     

    Minimum Acceptable Qualifications

     

    The minimum acceptable qualifications for the position of Instructor are prescribed in the Faculty Handbook.

    Additional Qualifications

    A Master’s degree or higher in a teaching or education related field of study is required or progressing toward an advanced degree.

     

    Physical Education and Health certification is required.

     

    Prior teaching and coaching experience at the K-12 level is required.

     

    Coaching experience is expected in both middle school and high school levels.
