Lead Garden and Kitchen Educator at Laurel Dell Elementary School. The Lead Garden and Kitchen Educator leads garden and kitchen-based lessons and activities, maintains a productive organic garden and kitchen space, and supports coordination and implementation of curriculum and class activities at Laurel Dell Elementary. This role collaborates closely with school staff, manages supplies and equipment, and supports program events and community engagement.
Reports to: BACR EXLP Industry Director, working in collaboration and under the guidance of the Grimm Education Foundation and the Principal of Laurel Dell Elementary School (San Rafael).

Education and Experience Required:
+ 1 -2 years Gardening Experience (required)
+ Experience cooking with whole foods (required)
+ Bachelor’s degree (preferred)
+ Experience working with elementary and/or middle school students (preferred)
+ Educational experience in related fields (preferred)
+ Proof of TB test Clearance

Duties and Responsibilities:
(Include but are not limited to)
+ Teach daily garden and kitchen classes across all grade levels, tailoring lessons to meet age-appropriate objectives in alignment with seasonal harvest and curriculum.
+ Coordinate with teachers and principals to build and maintain a class schedule and communicate grade-level lesson objectives.
+ Maintain an organic garden: oversee planting, harvesting, composting, soil fertility, pest/disease management, and tool/equipment care.
+ Manage the kitchen classroom (charlie cart): implement curriculum, maintain inventory, oversee Charlie Cart tools/appliances, and ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
+ Shop for whole food ingredients and class materials in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
+ Prepare and lead engaging family and community programs including Open House, Showcase Night, and Family Cooking Classes.
+ Support consistent instruction, classroom culture, and safety.
+ Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and planning sessions to align instruction, share feedback, and resolve operational needs.
+ Maintain records for both kitchen and garden programs, including inventory and budget oversight. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
+ Strong knowledge of both garden- and kitchen-based education, and ability to engage students safely and effectively.
+ Proven leadership and collaboration skills; ability to train and mentor support staff.
+ Organized and detail-oriented with strong multitasking and problem-solving abilities.
+ Effective communicator with students, teachers, parents, and community members.
+ Ability to work primarily independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced, hands-on learning environment, while collaborating with on-site teachers and administrators.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
+ Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., stand for long periods, and work in varying indoor/outdoor conditions.
+ Manual dexterity for gardening/kitchen tools; ability to taste, smell, and assess food quality.
+ Ability to work in warm weather and near kitchen equipment.
+ Capacity to work with frequent interruptions and manage multiple priorities.
+ Ability to travel within a 400 mile radius of Laurel Dell

Above is the pay range for this position that we reasonably expect to pay. Individual compensation is based on various factors including experience/education, skillset, and geographic location.
