    As a Real Time Markets Specialist, you will have the unique opportunity to serve as an expert in power supply management, optimizing generation resources and orchestrating commodity market dispatch for PGE's facilities. You will oversee complex real-time energy transactions and develop near-term wholesale marketing strategies, contributing to PGE's revenue objectives and clean energy goals. A successful candidate will have expert knowledge of electric bulk power generation and transmission systems, as well as advanced analytical thinking and decision-making skills. This role offers an exciting chance to shape the future of energy markets in the Pacific Northwest, working at the forefront of renewable integration and grid optimization.     KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    **Power Supply Management** - Serves as an expert on monitoring reservoir levels, wind forecasts and fuels supply to optimize use of generation resources and arrange generation operations to meet load and reserve requirements for each hour; orchestrates the assessment of outage information and directing commodity market dispatch of PGE generating facilities; provides expertise to colleagues developing and submitting base schedules and energy bids to the commodity market operator on an hourly basis; orchestrates the scheduling of short-term interutility exchanges of power and related power products; negotiates the most complex purchases of hourly and daily supplies of energy; determines price/risk tradeoffs of the most costly power system operating strategies; orchestrates the implementation of term and day-ahead contracts and development of day-ahead schedules for controllable resources.

    **Power Marketing** - Oversees or personally negotiates the most complex real-time energy sales, purchases and wheeling arrangements with other entities; analyzes and develops the most complex near-term wholesale marketing and commodity market bidding strategies; provides expertise to colleagues identifying and evaluating price/risk tradeoffs of very complex power sale/supply/transmission scenarios; determines near-term wholesale market strategies to meet revenue objectives; serves as a recognized expert on the West Coast power markets.

    **Accounting and Reporting** - Oversees the documenting and maintaining of records for PGE's Merchant Real Time Operations' activities and wholesale power transactions and reporting to governmental agencies, merchants, balancing authorities, accounting and contracting personnel and others; serves as a recognized expert on energy marketing and trading.

    **Transmission Management** - Orchestrates redirecting and/or purchasing transmission to meet PGE's needs for Merchant Real Time Operations' activities and reselling PGE purchased transmission that is surplus; ensures efficient and economic transfer of system resources within the EIM footprint; oversees accounting for all transmission activities.

    **External Relations** - Is a recognized expert of the power trading/scheduling system; develops and maintains relationships with other industry experts in scheduling and marketing and in other utilities.

    **Internal Collaboration** - Serves as a subject matter expert on the automated systems that support the strategies that impact the Western grid; as a highly skilled technical lead, consolidates system support between IT and energy supply, creating custom, complex products and solutions; ensures maintaining the system, repair of system issues and development and implementation of new systems and enhancement of existing systems; performs database extraction for analysis; creates custom tools.

    **System Training and Presentations** - Provides training and mentorship for complex energy supply systems that are interconnected in multiple ways and at multiple levels; serves as an expert in each system that forms the whole network that supports outages, bidding and operations; provides expert guidance on quality of communications, presentations and training on system enhancements.

    **Application System Functionality** - Utilizes broad and deep understanding of the entire trading process to contribute to companywide strategies addressed by implementation of new functionality to energy supply application systems; provides expertise in development of governance of analytical product, dataset and report library.

    **Application Support** - Provides expert guidance on support for and ongoing implementation of changes to system software, including identifying, tracking and resolving highly complex software problems; ensures coordination with software vendors and/or IT.

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATIONS

    Education

    + Requires a bachelor's degree in mathematics, sciences, engineering, finance, business, economics, or other related fields or equivalent experience.

    Experience

    + Typically 12 or more years in power trading, structuring, research, analysis, engineering, programming, design, modeling, power systems operations and/or wholesale power market operations or in a related field.

    Certifications

    + Experience with VB/VBA, Web APIs, Python, Java, SQL, and PI Vision/Explorer/Analysis. NERC Certification.

    Compensation Range:

    $130,900.00 - $243,100.00

     

    Actual total compensation, including a performance based incentive bonus, is commensurate with experience, skills, qualifications, education, training, and internal equity. While we anticipate the selected candidate for this position will fall towards the middle or entry point of the compensation range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis.
